Did you find Anakin Skywalker sympathetic in the prequels?

Got bored the other day and rewatched part of "Revenge of the Sith" and it made me remember how bad Anakin's character was in those movies, at least IMO. I didn't think the movie itself was that bad (it was easily the best of the prequel movies) but Anakin himself just came off as an overemotional a$$hole that was throwing a fit because they wouldn't make him a Jedi Master right when he wanted them to.

Lucas tried to make him the hero in the prequels but it was kinda hard to buy him turning to the dark side just because he had a dream about his wife dying and got emo about it. As if he's the first person to lose a loved one or something. The fact that he ended up causing it doesn't help. At least in my view Obi Wan was the hero of the prequels.

Nah, and he definitely wasn't supposed to be. You don't become Vader by putting on a mask, Vader was an evil princess torturing son-torturing threatening his son to do it to his sister and his friends scumbag.

Anakin was always supposed to be off somehow. Note in the OGs the ONLY good things you hear are "great pilot, cunning warrior, good friend, powerful". Only Obi-Wan seems to kind of like him, Owen Lars and Yoda are absolutely :scust: Luke brings up his dad and the Emperor mocks him in front of his son.

People grossly misremember the OG trilogy and romanticized Vader and were expecting a noble idealistic Anakin.

Nah we needed someone prone to violent outbursts who was selfish, craves control and wanted power BUT who cares about people close to him.

That's what we got :yeshrug:

His transition makes sense and the fact that he snaps out of it in JEDI makes sense. He couldn't be a perfect Jedi because we've seen how low and scust Vader is.

He was sympathetic up until he took out the Tusken children/women.

IMO he seemed like a benign b*stard child until the Jedi took him away. Him being fatherless, Palpatine selling him dreams, the not so affectionate Jedi code keeping him from seeing his only fam, Mace and Yoda low key :mjpls: :stopitslime:. You can see why he goes psycho.

I got a feeling if Qui Gon Jinn wasn't bodied, Anakin wouldn't have had to go through all that shyt that ended up making him go dark side.

No, the prequels were written and directed so poorly you had competent actors like Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Hayden Christensen, and Ewan McGregor still come off as uncomfortable because of the bad dialogue:

"I wish, I could just.... wish my feelings away"

The Prequels were Anakin's story, but they were to run parallel to Luke's story of doing the right thing and becoming a Jedi. Luke was sympathetic and overall likable and those traits really weren't found in the PTs until the very end of ROTS.

A competent director and proper script we get:
ESB
Rogue 1
ROTJ
Lesser Extent (TFA)

Vader is supposed to be a tragic character, if they made him less entitled, spoiled, and arrogant, and made his coercion to the Dark Side more believable, think Fredo in Godfather II....

That should have been a conflict in the anikin padme relationship so she was cool with him murdering children when he is a space cop.

Did he ever tell her about that? I can't recall offhand :patrice:

I never saw the hype in Star Wars because I grew up watching the prequels

I didn't even think people fukked with it like that
Those prequels ruined any seriousness I had for Star Wars
