The Seattle former Sonic majority owner, Howard Schultz who sold the team to Clay Bennett knowing full well what was going to happen, alienated the players like Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton and got rid of both guys. He also alienated the city in trying to get a new arena. That team ended up sucking and fans were pissed at the owners. The Seattle fans loved that team for 40 years and gave them a lot of love and it turned sour with a bad owner who sold the team knowing that Bennett was going to move it, and one move was trading Ray Allen for nothing. Why give money to something that is about to move. Especially since emails were leaked about Bennett trying to leave Seattle with Stern cosigning and then they tried tried to back track. It was completely fukked up, and they fukked that city over because Stern liked Bennett.
Nicely put. To add on, Howard let Wally Walker run the franchise into Bolivian with his never ending quest for the greatest center ever. Draft pick after draft pick ended up being a project center. There is no better way to smother excitement than to continuously draft project centers on a mediocre team.
