@Silkk there were a couple times they tagged together when rock got more chants than austin. I think one of them was a tag match vs taker and hhh. or maybe the six man tag with rock, austin, and vince.

also, if you watch anything from sept 98 until nov 98 his reactions were right there with austins. Cornette even brings it up to austin on an episode of heat.

now merchandise wise, no one was touching austin then. but reaction wise, rock was there with him plenty of times.

EDIT: to answer the initial question. it didn't do Rock any favors. it would have been fine if it happened off air.

I just finished those, don't get me wrong he was HOT especially right before SVS when he was feuding with Vince but I don't think he was on that Austin level tbh. But no one was so I don't see it as a knock on him.

Rock and Austin was in a elimination match against DX IN 99..4 vs 4. The crowd chanted for Rocky and kind of no sold Austin as he getting worked over.

And 1999...rock sold more merchandise than Austin...2000 as well. He was gone for 4 months in 2001..so that doesn't really apply. And the Rock buyrates are bigger than anyone from the Attitude Era.

98 doesn't matter...Crowds clearly was more pro Rocky before Survivor Series 99. Jim Ross don't know what to do in this clip as the fans boo Austin's name..lol

It was obvious only once from what I remember. I wish I could find the clip. It was moreso JR being insecure that Rocky was getting louder chants that night over his buddy Austin. JR tried his hardest to downplay the love Dwayne got.

If that's true, I highly highly doubt it was insecurity from the JR. Probably just him trying to maintain the storyline and bow to Vince's perception of Austin as the #1 guy.

Honestly Stone Cold used to always give faces random stunners. That behavior never became a problem until HHH did it. Just like Rock burying people on the mic. Never a problem until HHH (and now Cena does it, and Cena allows you to actually shoot back). Beards are weird.

Wasnt really a burying, anyone that turned heel w McMahon always got their ass kicking-powers nerfed a bit to make up for the cheating and fukkery. Even Stone Cold became kind of a coward when he turned heel.

jr was the only guy the wwf that was at austin's wedding. when austin had his neck surgery, jr was there. it was absolutely jr trying to look out for his boy. he did on more than one occasion.

The difference is Rock and Austin were entertaining and funny when they did it, they were clearly the best guys in the company and plus you knew they werent back there booking the show. And the crowds reacted accordingly.

HHH and Cena come across much more looking out for themselves, petty and corny, desperate to put themselves over better talent. And the crowds react accordingly.

He became a problem when Cripple H did it because he copied the Austin/Rock mold big time during his heel runs except he used set ups and factions. Lol@him returning angry to even the score with Austin after Survivor Series...what heel you know gets away with that shyt? Or him destroying WWE Champion Angle right before he turned heel in the tag match and revealed he had Austin ran over. Fans saw through it...they picked Austin. Cripple H was a super push..like Cena was.
