Just check out stuff like King Of the Ring 99...Ross clearly acts like Austin was more over than Rock...that crowd chanted Rocky so much thst they had enough and started chanting LET'S GO ROCKY instead. When Rock got cheered louder before Vengeance 01 in Oklahoma...Rock put over Austin as the legit WWE Champion and it should be champion vs champion and the entire booed Austin instead of popping and and they chanted Rocky. Ross said " this crowd clearly loves this man". Lol. He was definitely bias for saying Austin got the louder reaction when Rock was easily standing ovations before he would say FINALLY in 99 or 2000. Comical.

They like to point to mankind and rock rating numbers when Austin was injured.
to try to qualify and quantify the rock was a higher draw. Then also use it to validate via spreadsheet the son in law is included in this higher than Austin period. Yet scsa was always thee draw over everyone all time tho.

@Silkk there were a couple times they tagged together when rock got more chants than austin. I think one of them was a tag match vs taker and hhh. or maybe the six man tag with rock, austin, and vince.

also, if you watch anything from sept 98 until nov 98 his reactions were right there with austins. Cornette even brings it up to austin on an episode of heat.

now merchandise wise, no one was touching austin then. but reaction wise, rock was there with him plenty of times.

EDIT: to answer the initial question. it didn't do Rock any favors. it would have been fine if it happened off air.
