Did rewatching Dragonball Z change opinions you had about certain characters?

I've rematched DBZ so many times I can't count but I thought it would be interesting to talk about some of the opinions you had on characters after your first run of the entire series compared to the second or third times you watched it.

For example after a few times watching DBZ again I've noticed:

  • I can't blame Gohan for going soft after the Cell Saga. I always hated him as a character but after a few rematches I became objective and realized this dude was kidnapped at like 4 by his uncle and then watch him kill his father right in front of him :gucci: Then proceeds to get kidnapped by a person he's never met before and forced to train for people who are coming to kill him and everyone in his family.
  • This kid goes to Namek and gets his neck broken only for his pops to come in at the last minute like ":mjlit:"
  • To make a long story short he was thrown into circumstances he has no control over ever sense he was a toddler. The most fearsome villain they've ever faced is finally gone and he just starting to become a preteen. He wanted to relax.
I have more but I'm waiting for more post before I waste my time and this thread flops :mjcry:

Nah, Future Gohan had been through all that type of despair x100 and he turned out to be a hardened badass in the Future Trunks timeline.
latest

Gohan being half human played a part in making him soft but most of it had to do with Chichi smothering him so much and training him into thinking knowledge was more valuable than strength ONTOP of the fact that Gohan had always been very hesitant about his own fighting ability. Gohan's true strength emerges when he's challenged but he rarely challenges himself anymore.

Krillin. He isn't as strong, but if he wasn't so cautious and observant as he was on Namek they'd be done for.
That’s why I liked that saga the most. A few of the little guys had large roles to play and hadn’t become useless yet. The tension was always there every episode and he ended up being the unsung hero of that saga. Low key he fukked up bad in the saiyan saga by blowing up all those saibamen at once and ended up speeding up the fight and got Piccolo killed as a result, so its good redemption for him as a character.

I realized that goku was a shytty person who didnt give a fukk about his family or the people close to him when I got older.
which is funny because he really wasnt like that in the Saiyan Saga- Frieza Saga

i think I noticed really (i've seen the OG series 5 times in full dont need to rewatch) but I was watching Dead Zone and it's insane how much power scaling happens in the series. Goku was struggling to beat Garlic Jr's henchmen in the movie by himself and needed HELP

The Cell Saga made me respect Tien a whole lot more.

He never backs away from a fight and he never shows fear ( even though he knows he’s outclassed).

Tien had so much heart it's crazy.

I realized this when Nappa was powering up during the Saiyan Saga and had all them nikkas straight SHOOK.

He still fought and got his fukking arm ripped off.

Rewatching it makes me appreciate the power levels prior to SSJ and to see things from the Z fighters perspective.

They didn't even realize someone could be as strong as Nappa was.

Goku is a shytty person now? :stopitslime:

He sacrificed himself to save Gohan’s life twice!

Plus he trained him the longest and sacrificed his gains while they were in the hyperbolic time chamber so that he could help Gohan reach his full potential. Truly he is a great father :mjcry:

The only time you can really say he just didn’t care about anyone but himself was that ending

Off to train for a couple of years with someone he just met so they can have a all out fight? :what:

One thing I did notice when I rewatched it (kai) is the boosts in power.

People were shytting on super because of this while at the same time acting like DBZ didnt do the same thing lol

Vegeta was clearly stronger than Goku during and after their fight. Vegeta gets a zenkai boost after their battle and his battles on Namek but somehow Goku ends up significantly stronger than him after training for a couple of days at a 100g on his way to Namek :pachaha:

Vegeta got a ridiculous Zenkai boost after eating that senzu bean Goku gave him :dahell:
