Funny thing with his character is that he was a snake and tried to play both sides of the field but when he got murked a nikka like me was :to: because it as his fam who did him in. Prop saved Cheese ass on so many different occasions it ain't even funny, even lost money when doing it but in the end Cheese had him offed for what...money. nikkaz had to sympathize with that.

P.S. R.I.P. to Prop Joe IRL

The sole reason for a street savvy guy like Prop Joe to help a wolf like Marlo was the writers. They were trying to force Marlo into being the new Avon. Obviously everything that happens on a show is written but unless it's a stylistic choice, the writing is supposed to be transparent. Season 5 was the first time you could see the writers trying to make shyt happen.

From what we know of the character he'd never in a million years expose his entire operation to a young gun, then sit there like :dwillhuh: when he gets killed. It's the same thing with the Greek/Vondas Spiros. Look at how cautious they are in season 2. Look at how they're like :manny: about working with Marlo, who they don't know from a can of paint, just because he brought them money in season 5.

"The Wire" is still the GOAT but there was some extremely questionable writing going on in season 5.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed how Prop Joe was different in season 5. He was just showing too much to Marlo, as dangerous as Marlo was he didn't have veteran experience like Joe and the other had which is why Avon almost got his ass had he not get fukked over beyond the grave by Stringer.

On another note you would think Joe would have had a contingency plan for Cheese in case he would go rouge cause Joe was smart enough to know how much of a wildcard his nephew was.

Prop Joe was a likeable character - reasonable, calm, funny. He had some :ahh: lines and all he wanted was money. He got pulled into all that extra shyt and in the end, it cost him his life. Plus,it wasn't just Marlo that killed him - if the Greeks hadn't given the green light, he'd still keep the connect and Marlo would have to keep buying dope from him.

"If it weren't for Sergei here, you and your cousin would both be cadaverous motherfukkers right now" :salute:

fukk it, this whole scene is classic:

sort of off topic, but remember when Marlo and them needed "clean" money, and prop joe took their "dirty" money and turned it "clean"

then all of a sudden, marlo and them had shrink-wrapped money for days.

where was the "clean" money coming from?

The church. You don't remember when Joe introduced him to the minister?

This....

Its one of the few things I didn't like about The Wire, Marlo's whole storyline comes off as unrealistic to me, sort of like Omar's... Out of nowhere this young bul comes and takes over the city with a small crew of cold blooded killers and you expect me to believe the OGs wouldn't have murked his ass as soon as he started pullin' that bullshyt?

The game doesn't work like that... Its like the writers wanted to create this mythical character... Notice he's not as complex as Avon or Stringer or Prop Joe... all very well written characters. Marlo on the other hand is shown as the villain who doesn't have a weakness or cares about anything...

They must not had a lot of time to write his character is my explanation, maybe he wasn't part of the original storyline and they rushed him in an effort to prolong the series because of its success

that was the money laundering though.

when marlo tried to first get in with the greeks, he gave them "street bills", money that was basically fresh off the corner. then they went to joe, and started to get the fresh bills

No clue. I think that was just to show how much flex prop joe really had. Remember the connect in the court house, that gave him documents before raids would happen? He had reach almost everywhere.

Marlo had turned up by the end of season 3 breh, I think they had plenty of time to write him how they wanted him.

Wasn't that the point about him as well, that he had nothing but the game? We knew Avon had a big family and that his pops came up before him, but Marlo had none of that, no background or love for Baltimore. Avon was running around at cookouts n holding babies in the 1st season, I can't picture Marlo doing any of that, ever.

I always assumed he had no folks growing up, that he was the crack baby's crack baby, and that's why he was so cold with everything he did.

The only people he ever seemed to give a fukk about were Chris and Snoop, and the show implies heavily that they both had fukked up backgrounds as well (Chris having been raped at some point in his life, Snoop having been... well, Snoop).
