Above the fray.
What happened though? Did high end really kill classic hood fashion? :picard: It seem like it. Everybody who use to wear Pelle leathers, True Religions and Nike Boots wearing Balenciagas and Moncler coats. Even though Moncler and Gucci have made it clear they don't want black people wearing their shyt. :stopitslime:

That crowd got older and younger people found their own styles.

Young Black men set fashion trends. Companies were reluctant to accept that in my era, but the success of Black owned brands in the 90s and rap taking over the mainstream later, made them grudgingly accept reality. Now they accept it, to the extent that it drives business to them.

But young black folks still wear all the retro Jordan's, Nikes, Filas etc. this 15 year old bytch was staring at my Jordan 13's and told her friend they were fake, she didn't know they were the actual OG Jordan 13's from 1997 not the retro's. :umad:

Pelle leathers always been regional phenomena. Detroit, NYC and Chicago shyt really. I've never known any other cities to be really up on em like that. :rudy:

Yes. They've been alive since the late 80s/early 90s. All the dopeboys did/still wear them.

I got two vintage early 90's ones. Crazy bright leather pieces. They always get hella compliments from black people who can dress well themselves. And Pelle's are pretty much nonexistent in style where I live in Maryland. The only folks that wear em out here are NYC transplants. Regardless whether Pelle is black owned, black urban America put Pelle on the map. Shout out to the D. :lawd:

MJ and his success in selling shoes to all ages, is a unque case.

Wait, how can a brand that's big in those markets be considered regional?

You named 3 of the top 5-6 Black cities/metro areas in the country at the height of the brand. ......and in L.A., it's generally too hot for leather most of the year. As is the case in some of the major Black cities in the South.

Add Philly embracing Pelle Pelle to the cities you mentioned, and it's hardly a regional thing.

I ain't never heard of that and I've lived in Maryland for hella long. But then again, I moved to Maryland in the late 90's. So I don't how it was in the early 90's. I know Baltimore nikkas were on Avirex like that in the late 90's and early 2000's. People on here musta never been to NYC when it's cold outside. :stopitslime: Harlem known for them shyts especially. Cam'Ron, Juelz, Jimmy, Big L, Mase and ven Dave East wore them all the time. I know Pelles are synonymous with the Bronx.
Yeah Im not sure if the DC area was on Pelle Pelle as hard as other places I recall very few people with them in the early 90s.

Now Avirex was big in the late 90s in the DC area.

Also I think the OP is wrong about Pelle Pelle relevance at certain points they became pretty played out by the late 90s from what I recall.

VLAD Tv has some informative interviews about Urban Street Wear from the 90s and what happened. He has interviews with the black founders of Cross Colours and Karl Kani. Plus Freshed Dressed on Netflix touched on it a little.

Also Dame Dash has some good insights about how much money it takes to compete in fashion with the Ralph Laurens of the world.

Apparently we are seing a little resurgence of 90s styles tho. Fila is back, Kani is back in production. And last week Cross Colours made the news.

Then you never been to NYC or the Midwest. Y'all sound like some basement dwellers because black fashion is always regional. :martin:For instance, Hugo Boss, New Balance 990's and Helly Hansen are huge in the DMV. But some basement dweller who only knows fashion from 90's Hip Hop and the internet would say some insinuating shyt like Helly Hansen is some 1996 shyt and grey New Balance are Steve Jobs shoes.:hhh:

Are Pelle and Avirex even warm?

I wanted an avirex as a kid but never pulled the trigger.

Having a Pelle Pelle was dangerous and expensive

Eventually they’ll return in style I think. Pelle Pelle are large leathers and right now we in a fitted era.
