Yeah, I don't see why anybody would get mad at these movies being similar since Die Hard started the whole "Oh shyt! I'm stuck in a horrible situation must clear this place of bad guys!" plot. It's been happening for a LONG time:

Under Siege? Die Hard on a warship
Under Siege 2? Die Hard on a train
Home Alone? Die Hard for kids
Sudden Death? Die Hard in a stadium
Cliffhanger? Die Hard on a mountain
Speed? Die Hard on a bus
Passenger 57? Die Hard on a plane... with a black man
Snakes On A Plane? Die Hard on a motherfukkin' plane
Air Force One? Die Hard on, you know it, Air Force One
Dredd 3D? Die Hard on a high rise
The Raid: Redemption? Die Hard on a rundown apartment complex
Toy Soldiers? Die Hard on a boarding school
The Rock? Die Hard on Alcatraz
The Fifth Element? Die Hard.... In space.

From what I understand it's just 2 movies with somewhat similar idea's that happen to be made at around the same time.

I remember reading an interview with Garret Evans where he talks about hearing the Dredd premise while he was in the middle of filming The Raid.. Matter of fact here it is..

Are you aware that the new Judge Dredd film has basically the same plot as The Raid?

Gareth Evans: Yes. It was weird, because, while we were in post on The Raid, I was telling a friend what the story was about – a bunch of guys storming a building. And he said, that’s like the new Judge Dredd movie. And I said, “What?”

He sent me a link that explained the story, and I said, “Oh God, we have to get this released very, very soon.” [Laughs]
