Holding the gun sideways it's a high probability you'll jam the gun.

And it makes the bullet drive out the chamber all funky, **** around and hit a snotty nose kid on the stoop just eating some Cheetos

Not to mention the chamber can fly off unexpectedly and shoot through your skull if held sideways...

It looks cool and that's about it.

Scratch that. Apparently Marlon Brando used the sideways grip back in 61 in the movie "One-Eyed Jacks".
