I heard old heads on 125th talking about country being Black American music when I was in HS. A lot of y’all are not learned and make points so matter-of-factly about shyt you don’t know and have the gall to question the historicity of some of the replies in here.

I’ve been listening to a lot of more current other styles of music done by black folks that ain’t rap, R&b, or rock..not directly because of Beyonce but Beyonce definitely added to my curiosity. I actually started when i randomly found out that Tekitha(of Wu Tang fame) and Prana(her daughter with The RZA) were out here doing country music.

I was never a country music type of dude outside of songs here and there, I definitely didn’t know black were were really out here doing country, Americana, and all kinds of shyt. I recently found these cats

And this

And it’s stuff like this that makes me realize we can make whatever kind of music we want :yeshrug:

I keep seeing Beyonce fans saying it but from what I’ve seen not sure if it’s true. It no doubt has influence from the blues and other forms of black music. @IllmaticDelta

It was created by white people. But white people obviosuly are heavily influenced by all popular music. And since black people innovated most of this nations popular music. It makes sense to think that they drew some inspiration from genres like blues, rock. and so forth.
But i feel like thats not enough for us to try and claim it. It would be like saying whoever invented chords technically created hiphop because everyone uses chord progressions and stuff like that on the instrumentals. It's a reach
