Throughout NBA history, it's rare for a franchise to pull off a complete turnaround in just one season. However, the Detroit Pistons have managed to do so over the past year. Along with getting the franchise back on track, they are on pace to make NBA history.

The 2024 campaign was one to forget for the Pistons to say the least. They were on the wrong end of a historically-long losing streak, and ended the season with just 14 wins. Looking at this year's team, they are a night-and-day difference from the group that had the NBA's worst record.

Thanks to an array of changes across the organization, the Pistons have been a far more competitive team this season. Their hard work has paid off, as they recently clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2019.

With just nine games to go in their regular season schedule, the Pistons have a chance to finish above .500 since 2016 (the team went exactly .500 in 2019). If Detroit can muster just one more victory down the stretch, they'll etch their names in history books. As of now, no NBA team has ever been able to triple their win total in just one year's time.

There are endless factors that can be attributed to the Pistons' success this year, but two stand out above the rest. The first is Cade Cunningham emerging as a star-level talent in his fourth year in the league. Aside from this, J.B. Bickerstaff also deserves credit for what he's done. The team has rallied behind him a big way, and he's created a culture that has drastically changed the group on and off the floor.

Along with their pursuit of history, the Pistons will attempt to continue building positive momentum in hopes of pulling off an upset in round one of the playoffs.

J.B's one of the best developmental coaches in the league.

It's something the Pistons have been in desperate need of for a while to get up off the ground and not be perpetually stuck in the lottery. That along with Cade developing into a star, and it's no surprise they've had such a drastic turnaround. Shoutout to Beasley too for having an arguably career-year.

You don't want to stop winning...but low key moving up to the 5 seed to face Indiana is less favorable for Detroit than staying at the 6 and facing the Knicks.

Detroit matches up well with the Knicks and IMO they're the straight up better team. Indiana gives Detroit problems with their play style and some of their personnel.

If I'm Detroit I want the Knicks. That's a fugazee, soft team that Detroit should handle.

Listen we’re all happy for the Pistons but let’s be realistic here. You don’t want that smoke

I’m glad for them and the coach. Coaches can matter in the NBA. Most teams have talent. It’s getting them to play hard, understand their roles, and work together for ONE common goal.

Memphis, Houston, Detroit, Indiana are all great stories. Unfortunately, Memphis just fired their coach. Kings did it two years ago with Woodson. Blazers are feisty since the turn of the year as well.

Shout out to the Pistons. Shout out to good coaching. Pistons can get to the second round. They could possibly catch 1 or 2 slipping in the second round as well.

Pistons play a brand of ball (especially on the defensive end) that eats up soft teams like the Knicks. Towns weak ass is not rooting out Duren on the glass and Tobias has the size to deal with Towns being a 7 foot 3-ball shooter.

Cade will torch Brunson to negate whatever Brunson does on offense. You can sick Twin on Bridges...or OG...and Tim is a capable defender.

Playoffs are all about match-ups...as we know.
