You seem to a nostalgic sense of Black History the way Southern Whites have of the pre CRM South. Government is something we should thrive for but if you look at history, the Federal government is one of the few institutions in America that allowed Blacks to progress. New laws were created to protect Black rights, to allow Blacks to work, shop and purchase land. Military escorts to school, Federal investigations to solve local murders, etc.

The government has been simultaneously our biggest friend and foe since we landed. We are no more dependent on government than we were 200 years ago. Historically I'd say we are more independent. These a$$holes have been recycling the same Southern Strategy, Solid South talking points for over a century. Stop listening to them. Calling us welfare queens and walking away helps no one. Walsh doesnt care about Black people

Well this much is obvious. That doesn't mean there is a modicum of truth to what he is saying however. Even a broken clock is right twice a day breh.

This. People's knee-jerk reaction is to cry RACISM but in reality Rep Walsh's statements have alot of truth to them. If you compare the black pyche in the early 1900's to where we are now, i would say we have regressed substantially. We essentially went from a mindset of "we shall overcome" to a subservient, government dependent one. I mean, can you imagine we used to have numerous black senators, a black wall street, as well as numerous black run institutions of higher learning. [sarcasm] But thank God for integration, because now we no longer need to support our black institutions. [/sarcasm]

Hell, there was a time when black college and professional athletics were considered the premier sporting events in the US among many sports fans. Now its basically a running joke in the athletic world. Its truly demonic friends.
