This is why Ive been screaming we need more everyday people politically engaged on a local level no matter how simple the involvement. The local leaders are just going off the shyt they hear from whoever turns out on the ground level (whether senior chairs listen is a different convo). One of the biggest examples for me was my first political cycle on the ground for the 2018 midterms
A big part of Gillum's campaign was making the Sunshine State a solar energy leader. Im for the plan but when Im actually walking around in my county I notice how shyt the roads are in most of the routes im working. My home office really liked me and were showing me the administrative side and it gave me an in to ask why we don't find a way to work the roads into our script. Their answer to me was that they had their three core policys we were pushing to would-be voters and everything else was up to me. So I did and it was very frequently the only part of my pitch that people would be engaged with, I'd get them to start complaining about the roads and that would slide into other complaints that I'd record down to bring up in the meetings. We never pivoted our messaging but they really liked my outreach ability so they asked me to share tips with the other canvassers
The disconnect between the foot soldiers and the generals is glaring. shyts so bad its compelled me to go back into the local party apparatus to try and take on the leadership role I'd been avoiding but ultimately nothing I do will matter if the party doesn't figure out who they want to be
