How can you constantly supervise all the kids? How can they be supervised in the fukking bathroom? You're sounding illogical and you're thinking too emotionally. 16 years old is old enough to be held responsible for a crime such as this. They deserve at least 10 years, IMO. Anything else is a disrespectful to the deceased's family.

In the state of Ca there are laws that says all kids, that's people under 18 are to be supervised when at camp or at school. It's 2 adults for every ten kids I think the ratio is. I was a lifeguard. We had a bathroom attendant. We dealt with hundreds of kids, fukking swimming, and climbing trees. We never had one drowning or one injury because we had enough well trained staff to prevent BS like this. We had walkie talkies and runners. Runners were literally supposed to be highly mobile and make rounds. They were loaded up with first aid kits and trained to keep someone alive until the EMTS arrived. That was my job.

It was also my job to coordinate and train staff to be vigilant. We didn't allow kids to go anywhere without at least one adult staff member period. The rule was two adults at least, we didn't care how old the kids were. I also coached aggressive boys in a full contact sport and we never had any violence because they knew better. Kids don't raise themselves and they don't condition themselves.

You're right, but that's how it goes down in all the settings I've worked in. We have resources and a well trained staff to prevent shyt like this. Children who aren't obedient and well conditioned end up in jail. Just like these girls.

I want the girls to be punished. They're murderers and need to learn to contol themselves and behave civilly. Can we agree on that? I think we do. We disagree on the length of their incarceration. And that's okay. My main point is 15 is old enough to be held accountable for their decisions but it's not old enough for them to be punished as adults who planned a murder. Life in prison is too much and the death penalty is excessive given the other factors I see. Which are a lack of structure and supervision which is due to a lack of resources. And that's another conversation.

Somebody raised a good point. When someone hits the floor usually the fight ends for most normal people. So why did these girls continue to assault and eventually murder this girl? What made that okay to them? I think their parents and the school should be accountable as well as the girls involved. I'm not excusing their behavior. I'm expanding on who's responsible for this.

How do we feel about weekend labor for an extended period of time?

Probation period where you can only go to school during the week day, you MUST have a summer job with max hours and then house arrest again.

And labor/ volunteer work every weekend for 5 years or something.

Might not be as harsh as some of you want, but would this be a more effective punishment without throwing their lives away as well?

True. I just hate throwing lives away. Never faught over anything this petty, and I was never into the jumping someone game. But I've been in some school fights, you don't imagine someone hitting their head like that. Freak "purposeful" accident if that makes sense.
