Atlanta metro doesn't always have official borders regarding each area. You have many different unincorporated areas. So a person who lives in Gresham Park on the SE side can claim Atlanta even though it's an unincorporated area served by Dekalb county. Now a nikka from Clayton County don't claim Atlanta. Waka always claimed Riverdale in his music. Atlanta is thrown on him because it's the metro. Migos are from Metro Atlanta, but they're from Gwinnett county. shyt works differently down here officially and unofficially.

Been hearing this debate since the 90s from high school nikkas and internet nikkas the same. Decatur is the eastside of ATL. Kirkwood, Edgewood and them are East ATL.

CP, EP, Forest Park is southside of ATL. Back then the Decatur nikkas was some haters on sum lil town vs everyone mentality, don't nobody trip like that these days.

Perhaps ATL/GA dudes should take Waka's lead then. I see Migos claming the "Norf" too sometimes as well. People should hust claim their own individual area. Build it up like them Westcoast nikkas do. They claim Compton, Watts, Inglewood etc. Even tho it can all fall as LA County. The indiviudality is what builds up the overall scene.

I understand why this is always a touchy subject in our culture. Throwing your city in the trash to rep another city or area is disrespectful to your hometown and the people you grew up with.

Even back in the days nobody ever saw people from 914 as NYC people.

Westchester was more potent in the 90s alot of the earliest and biggest stars from the New York hip hop scene came from there. It died down out there in the 2000s so thats why the sentiments changed over time.

The only time this distinction was made was back when housing projects like east lake meadows still existed. People repped their hoods but the hoods are no more. Other than that anyone born and raised here don't care.
