I'm on episode 6... show isn't bad but the way they write certain scenarios rubs me the wrong way...

The Joelle episode was shaping up to be the best but the way they handled the 'hotep' was wack and sloppy as hell. There really was no justification for the assault that was inflicted upon him, regardless of his ignorant views.... The thing that makes it worse is that there are numerous white characters who are so damn unbearable on here and constantly say some offensive dumb shyt [played for laughs] and they never face ANY type of consequences for their bullshyt.

The white character who initiated the security guards excessive force on Reggie is still being rewarded and given passes on this season...

There's a slant here. There was a reason everything happened the way it did with the hotep and Gabe wasn't rewarded for what he did. He was treated with derision immediately after. His ignorance was pointed out and he acknowledged it...he had to fight just to regain some semblance of normalcy especially with the girl he loved. You want the ignorance of the white guy to have some unending amount of discipline while the black guy who unapologetically attacks and lambasts every member of his own people should be treated with understanding. Like I said...slant

Just finished the season...

Ummm No I want them to be consistent with their own logic and not be hypocrites.

Gabe was rewarded in the end... he is redeemed and he gets the girl. Let's not stop there.. There's Kurt who was a full blown racist last season... all of his actions from the past season are seemingly brushed under the rug. He went from a white racist caricature to being humanized by the end of season 2.. Compare that to Trevor who is turned into a flat one note stereotype by the end of the episode, humilated, assaulted and we never hear ffrom him again.

You can't justify his treatment and assault at the end of the episode when for one... the character who assaulted him [Reggie] just a few episodes back is given a long drawn out scene where the dean makes it clear that he must not 'stoop' to physical violence when he spots the security guard that humiliated him. and 2... someone like Kurt is made reasonable and redemable despite his harmful actions.

This is a show known for it's message... so WTF type of message are they sending here? That it's OK to assault black folks with differing extreme views but that we must reason and be patient with white people who mock and commit harmful actions towards black folks.

I think the writing on this show is pretty good, too bad there's so much wenching and fakkitry. The leftist tinge is overbearing. Funny how the dream world for Coco (illustrated when she brought her unborn daughter to Winchester) was an integrated AP.:mjpls:

They shoulda given the Hotep a real role. Real competing viewpoints within the black community at Winchester woulda made this more interesting.
