Diuretics, also called water pills, are medications designed to increase the amount of water and salt expelled from the body as urine. There are three types of prescription diuretics. They're often prescribed to help treat high blood pressure, but they're used for other conditions as well

LMAO

THAT YOUNG ASS nikka DOESNT HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

"athletes who take anabolic steroids pop diuretics to dilute their urine, which decreases steroid concentration and makes it much more difficult to detect."

There's more to PEDs than just raw strength. One of the best benefits is being able to recover faster

shyt that may actually be the best benefit.

mans honestly I don’t care if athletes are on PEDs but people have to stop thinking of steroids as the only PED and that they magically just work without putting in work.

This is the second U of A guy to get popped for steroids. Trier got suspended in college for it. Have no idea why either needed to use for basketball. Just stupid.

The diuretic acts as a dilution factor which lowers all drug concentration levels, I would assume. Rudimentary testing methods can detect this by measuring normal urine components. It's an "indirect" failure insofar as he may not have actually tested positive for any particular banned substance but his use of something illegal can be inferred from the tainted sample.

Unless you're :troll: then by all means, cook

Respect, breh. You guys know I respect the fight game.

You just don't accidentally use a banned diuretic in 2019.
He was masking something.

Woj. stated they didn't find any other substances in his system, though. Ayton stated he took something on accident and the NBA front office assumed he was hiding something. That's why the NBAPA got involved.

Because they can make you stronger, faster, more explosive, more confident, more focused, allow you to train much much much longer and harder than a naturally clean athlete, AND allow you to recover from those longer and harder training sessions and from real games infinitely faster than a clean athlete will ever be able to. You know, all the same reasons EVERY athlete in ANY professional sport abuses these things; because they work and the benefits they can provide in virtually every important aspect of athletics are substantial... hence why they're banned in the first place.

PEDs doesn't just mean anabolic bodybuilder steroids for beach muscles (although increased lean muscle is absolutely a major benefit of many PEDs and useful in basically every sport); that term encompasses an infinite number of chemical substances that can give an almost infinite number of different physiological benefits, plenty of em applicable to basketball.
