De La's Stakes is High track might be the most timeless damn near prophetic song ever.

Refreshing :ahh: The energy was so different back then.
You had to have talent back then.

I've grown tired of hearin' these dudes whining thru autotune and over production that has no soul at all. Everybody can make the type of music out today.

Summer 96 is the goat hip hop year.

Getting ready for freshman year...

Rap City kept me eating good that season.

Best year of my life... All because of the music.

.

I feel you 100%. Was a few years older but I got my first job that summer/fall, first really started getting knowledge of self, just felt more independent overall. And hip-hop was monumental in my personal development.

This song always reminds me of school about to end for the summer, just like now. "Stakes Is High" and O.C.s "Far From Yours" always give me that last 2 weeks of the school year vibe.

Trugoy got The Source Hip-Hop Quotable of the month for his first verse off this track when it dropped. Which is funny cuz the last line before his verse starts is Pos says "every word I say should be a hip-hop quotable".

Started out listening to De La back during me myself and I.

They are some of the ones responsible for the big leather African medallion movement that took place in the late 80s early 90s.

And they came thru the steel cutting steel 94-96 era with flying colors. Respected everywhere. De La Soul always got love in Texas even when alotta other east coast artists didn’t.

Album ain't on Spotify im angry
Spotify has been lacking with a lot of that type of content lately. I had to get that youtube music trial to find stuff. For some reason or whatever, my brother was trying to find Potholes in my lawn, they don't even have that.

Real facts. and that's part of the problem- everybody is making music that either shouldn't or it leads to them oversaturating the market with the same production and content. This was one of my favorites from them too-
:wow:
