I am pretty sure Canelo only had a 3 fight deal with Showtime and the third fight is set for this November. He can fight wherever he wants to fight next year so network battles won't be a problem.Seems like all the rumors are leading that way. De La Hoya continues to "build" his relationship with Arum and it is said DLH wants to mend fences with HBO and secure more distribution, in case Haymon power plays him out of Showtime.
Outside of Floyd-Manny and Floyd-Canelo 2, this may be the biggest fight to be made. You would have to think HBO and Showtime would at least try to work out a way to make this fight...Cotto has said he will be loyal to HBO and won't toss them to the bushes.
Boxing as a sport needs to make this fight happen. It is a fantastic matchup and is great for the fans. As fans we deserve it and it would be a shame if network/promoter beefs held it up.
With the thaw between Oscar and Arum, Oscar working with HBO again to put on the Hopkins/Kovalev fight and both Canelo/Cotto being free agents as far as what networks they can fight on...it is almost a guarantee that Canelo/Cotto will be happening on HBO PPV next May.
If Floyd can't get a Manny fight for that weekend to make Canelo/Cotto move then I see Showtime moving Floyd's fight date to avoid having to share PPV revenues and face the possible embarressment of losing badly in PPV buys to the Canelo/Cotto card.
