Nowhere in that article does it say he's Green Lantern. It's gonna be focused on those 5 kids. Unless he's training the Superman kid clones. 
in a recent episode of Batwoman, Diggle shows up and asks Batwing about the box the ring is in because he can't open it so I'm guessing that will probably be the underline plotline of this show while he teaches new heroesIs this supposed to be Live Action Young Justice?

I don't need DC/WB to be a carbon copy of the MCU.
I'm fine with them doing what they are currently doing as long as the stuff they put out is good.
Now The CW shows have struggled a bit in the last few years with the core shows that put them on the map but Legends of Tomorrow is still a fun watch and Stargirl and Superman & Lois are quality shows.
Haven't watched more than the pilot of Naomi so I don't know if that is a good show or not yet.
