During the DC panel decided to announce it, same shyt they did when they created the new Batwoman, they stressed the fact that she would be a lesbian to any media group that would listen.

I can't hate on them making the announcement to get press when it is a major character like Batwoman who they planned on making the first gay character to headline a book or in this case where it is supposed to be a character that is considered "iconic".
For the other gay characters they just happen with little to no fanfare. No one sent out a press release for Pied Piper or Renee Montoya or the alien Starman.
And they introduced a gay member of the Teen Titans during the new 52 relaunch that got almost no press beforehand.

And I am still sticking with Black Lightning or the Atom (the Asian one not the white one) as my guesses since it is a "big name" character that hasn't been seen in the New 52 yet and I think it would take too long to explain Wally West to the mainstream/non-comic press since he is neither Kid Flash or The Flash currently.
