I think it's more acting like it's revolutionary having a gay character is what causes the flops.
Moonlight was a gay movie but it still marketed as a coming of age drama, and did well.
that one movie about the two cowboys did well too.
but key factor is these were still expected to be good movies that just happened to deal with gay stuff, rather than marketing it soley as a "watch this if you like gay content." type shyt that they often do with the ones that flop.
like one poster pointed out, this character has so many covers of him kissing other dudes as if being gay is his entire character.

Well that's the whole entire problem with modern gay culture. Orientation being your whole identity and purpose in life is absurd.

They should've just made him gay. He's "bi" but all we see him doing chasing men. And he's constantly into gay social justice. Plus society is less accepting of bi men compared to bi women and/or gay men. They only made him bi to appease the alt right readers who didn't want a gay Superman.....it back fired because no on wants a bi Superman.

I feel like a lot of the comic book marketing and writers are aiming at the wrong crowd tbh. They seem to be obsessed with using twitter as a metric for popularity but fail to acknowledge that getting a “like” on a post or initiative doesn’t transmit to a sale. Most people would still watch a movie than read a comic tbh. Im not sure if that type model is throughout the DC/Marvel comic company however.

If anything they should be trying to understand why manga is still so popular among thier target audience and work from there instead of virtue signaling.

Not saying its awful as I haven't read it, but there is a main-line Superman that will be rocked with until the end of time. Offshooting a bisexual son is all well and good but was it even enjoyable? You already got the "THERE IS AN AGENDA!" or religious folks who won't touch it, and then there are so many titles that of course there is competition. If LGBTQ folk didn't buy in enough, it is what it is. There seems to be a demand for LGBTQ media that blends with other media rather than being siloed into a potential justice warrior comic which this one almost seems like it is. None of this bothers me but we know how the world is. Gotta tell your audience to buy in.

Basically.

A lot of comics are out there struggling and have gotten canceled. The industry is struggling in general. For a series to reach 18 issues is pretty much a feat in and of itself lol, and it sold 68k on launch so it's not the "GOTCHA" "GO WOKE GO BROKE" event people think it is.
