Dogg food is one of the most overrated albums ever.."New York,New york" and "bomb ass p*ssy" is the best songs on it IMO, and daz was and always will be garbage on the mic..spice 1 1st & 2nd album never seems to get held in the same regard, and both of'em shyts all on dogg food as far as west coast gangsta albums go

And as for the thread,It's no contest..ball & G got this easily..

Naw cuzz...I'll give you 187 He Wrote...but that first Spice joint ain't on Dogg Food level, and fa sho doesn't "shyt" on it.

How can a muffucca who heard "Dogg Pound Gangstaz", "Dogg Day Afternoon", and "Sooo Much Style" call that album overrated?

"Welcome to the ghetto" :wow:,alone is better then anything on dogg food,str8 up..what about the creativity he displayed in "187 proof"?, the audacity of "money gone"?, and the raw, uncut grimeyness of "young nikka, east bay gangsta & money or murder"?...it wasn't no soft sucka shyt thrown in it either to appeal to the masses..just str8 gangsta shyt through & through..dogg food wouldn't even have sold like it did if it wasn't for them being affiliated with snoop & death row at the time imo

I ain't saying it wasn't tight...but Dogg Food was straight up g-beats and rhymes. The appeal was that it wasn't novel or introspective,
it was "this is the Dogg Pound, this is what we do". For every song on that album, the vibe was just as said on "Respect":

"all we do is smoke weed and get blitzed/and kick that muthafuccin' gangsta chit...."
"saywhat saywhat saywhat saywhat sayWHUUUUUUT?"
"...kick that muthafuccin' gangsta chit"

And what you bringin' up sales, for?

dogg food and comin out hard are both classics, and it's impossible for me to choose the better album, but after that, it's a pretty easy decision. daz and kurupt(as a duo), just don't have the kind of discography to even fukk with ball and g after their debut. in their primes, kurupt was the best mc out of any of them tho. also, i've listened to retaliation, revenge, and get back more than any other solo, between the four. the thing w/ these duo's is, even their unreleased/early material was good. it's a damn shame we never got another one like dogg food.

LOL @ Daz & Kurupt being better when they only have 1 album that would even make the argument interesting. Not saying they are wack by any stretch, but they don't have the catalog to compete with Ball & G.

the thing is 8ball & mjg made some good a$$ albums but they never made THAT CHIT.

dogg food was THAT CHIT. and the rest of their catalog holds up enough, with the addition of all the other intangibles that go into rankings, outside of just catalogs.

that's how they rank ahead of groups like 8ball & mjg.

On a side note, anyone remember a guest verse from MJG where is opening bars were ...... www.mjg.com. I remember he ripped the hell outta that track but i cant remember the dam track.

you mean the jawn they did for the baller blockin soundtrack? I banged that jawn all thru 11th grade jim.

"when I deliver, make em shiver like it was jellotin/break the skeleton out of muthaf*ckas that's sellin them BOOTLEGS"

"pistol play, playin wit me'll get you kidnapped. evidence show im just a hustla that know how to rap."

"hate in my bloodstream, smoked-out dreams, shoot rap in my vein like a nicca was a fiend"

no hate but a real question

what group album do 8ball & MJG have thats better than Dogg Food?

what solo albums do 8ball & MJG have thats batter than

Kurupt-Streetz iz a mutha

Daz-Revenge and Get Back & Raw?

On Top Of The World is better is than anything Daz and Kurupt put out group or solo wise (lets not even get into ball and g's solo work, they wreck shop there also), and is in fact one of the greatest albums of all time @Ultimate Warrior shut this thread down.

slept on piece right here

dogg pound takes this.

Eightball & MJG have Coming Out Hard. That album is at least on par with Dogg Food. There's also On Top Of The World. If intangibles like influence, impact, longevity etc. is included, then Eightball & MJG would still be ahead of Dogg Pound. Their group albums outside of Dogg Food don't hold up.
