I think youre looking at it from the wrong lens. I saw it as two tag partners who know each other so well their counters to moves mirrored the counters of their favorite wrestlers because of how familar they are with their catalogue. If they werent tag partners who are as in sync id definitely agree but if I expect this for any tag team its the polished old school guys.

Two guys who don’t work like Bret OR Owen generally.

Yall gotta chill in here. This match is for two HEAVILY revered wrestlers from our youth. But just a couple of points to make...

Lots of tournaments have qualifiers. The qualifiers add prestige. Even the damn Royal Rumble had qualifiers.

Calling the trophy "The Owen" is fukking DOPE and really pays tribute to the man.

And lastly, this is a tournament put on by Martha Hart's foundation for Owen. It doesnt need some kayfabe prize. Its big on its own. The fact that it even exists is amazing considering how badly Vince handled Owen's death.

:hubie:All I'm saying is that the winner needs to hold a big ass check for the foundation ala Puro.

It's just easy PR and more pandering to smarks from the AEW side to have some tournament named after a guy who never stepped foot in the company. I'm sure we'll get the "Eddie Guerrero Cup" at some point too. If an expansion team pops up in the NBA soon (maybe Vegas or Seattle) and they retire Kobe's numbers off rip I'd be more :comeon: than :wow: and Bean is my favorite athlete of all time.

It's the same reason they OD on the Brodie Lee stuff whenever they need positive press.

How many dudes are in the WWE Hall of Fame who never actually wrestled for WWE or even WWF? Just asking for no particular reason at all. :sas2:
