prices in 2013 were way higher than 97-01, even when you adjust for inflation

Defiantly, my pops use to take me.to shows and the middle section was like $30-35.Now it's more than that.

Merchandise is also more now. I remember my mom's went to hills and copped me Austin 3:16, Stone cold university, and NWO Wolfpac shirts for like $30 on my birthday. Now at regular price that would be $45-60.I understand what ED is getting at but inflation and stadium Manias is probably why Cena/Rock are at number 1.

The build to their first match was crazy.

Rock publicly acknowledging Cena in his return promo and seeing them interact the first time on screen was just :damn:

It was the first time since maybe the attitude era of seeing a build up and feeling like I absolutely HAD TO see the match.

People was getting together to watch that match like it was MayPac or MayMac :russ:

He's going SELECT numbers, likely the gates of the manias

Austin vs Vince SHOULD include all of the related ppvs, all the mania, all the rumbles, all the venues they sold out and house shows, the t shirts, etc

It's not apples to apples because Cena vs rock was 2 manias and a rumble, and some raws. That's it.

The money honestly DOESNT compare.

Hell knowing meltzer, he probably including movies Rock did during the 3 year build :mjlol:

I've watched some of those old shows back. when Orndorff was a babyface, he'd get really good reactions too.

crazy to think that out of Orndorff, Piper, Andre, and Macho Man, that Orndorff would be the one to sell the most tickets.

Orndorff was tied to Hogan for the better part of 3 years, with their actual feud being the culmination of that association.

People also forget that Roddy Piper was originally Orndorff's manager, that Orndorff was the other man in that WrestleMania I tag match, and that the finish to that match set up Orndorff's initial face turn.

Dude was a big, big deal in the mid-1980s, and was associated with Hogan (in the WWF) longer than anyone else you named. It really isn't that surprising when you think about it.

Btw I truly do not believe that the money from those 3 manias compares to the money drawn by Vince and Austin from 97 to 01...

For one, everyone who named inflation as a factor is correct. Meltzer's list probably looks radically different when inflation is taken into account.

But the other factor I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that Meltzer seems to only be counting in-ring feuds as "drawing" feuds. Yes, Austin/McMahon carried the WWF for 2 solid years at least and probably drew more money than any feud Meltzer lists, but McMahon almost always fought Austin via proxies in the ring (Dude Love, The Undertaker, Kane, The Rock), which fractures the actual draw numbers. If you added them all together and adjusted for inflation, though, then Austin/McMahon would probably be number 1.

Rock/Cena happened at 3 wms....A rock bottom beat Cena. Same thing happened at WM 28. Then Rock did the job.

McMahon vs Austin was a tv thing...it never outdrew or got bigger ratings than the Rock/Austin feud.

Yeap. Hogan/Piper is probably a more famous feud due to Piper being a bigger star in the business overall in comparison to Orndorff. But that Hogan/Orndorff feud was the hottest thing going by a LONGSHOT in '86. So hot, Orndorff was put on hold as Andre's replacement for Mania III in the event Andre wasn't physically able to go (remember Andre was ready to retire before this match was pitched to him). Hogan/Orndorff sold out the stadium in Toronto, then continued thru '86 on two SNMEs, including the famed steel cage match. People forget how big Orndorff was in his run because it ended so abruptly and sorta short-lived, but he was one of the company's top 5 guys for a couple years.

My guy mr wonderful ruined his career chasing the one goblin payday. Instead of taking time off and putting pressure on cokeboy as the only natural person to be opposite Hogan as a heel, solo. Instead he let Hogan and vkm talk him into greed and as a result for one payday. That could have been more. He also lost all musculature and real use of his arm.

Mr wonderful ruined his shyt forever and ruined any opportunity to take over as the heel champion in a program with Hogan for one pay day greed.
Goofball came back to wcw taking offbrand pix trying to pose with a bad arm like a mike Epps comedy skit.

Ol bae bae face ass......

That and Mania being a different event when Cena Rock happened. shyt, it breaks the gate revenue record almost every year.
