They mention Disaster Artist in the press, so if this is something more where it's making fun of how ridiculous Vanilla Ice is with a little bit of heart, then it could be good.

People in here mad like they announced it as a documentary where they credit Ice with the invention of hip-hop.

The fact Dave Franco is playing him should tell you a little about the tone it's gonna lean towards.
If that's the case you forgot to mention it will also be a bit of a prestige/Oscar bait type movie to.
And 'heart' means he will be redeemed as some well meaning guy.
I will watch it, it's not that serious but I would rather a KRS1 Biopic instead. :yeshrug:

If this was the first theatrical rap biopic or if this was a bunch of white guys deciding to tell a black man's story, I'd probably feel differently.

I just can't muster the energy or see an angle to get mad at the lesser Franco brother telling the story of and poking fun at a figure of comedy like Vanilla Ice the way his older brother did The Room guy.

:yeshrug:

I mean @Drew Wonder just posted a link to the script and the first thing is Vanilla Ice trying to poorly convince an interviewer that the original sample and Ice Ice Baby are different and looking like an idiot for thinking he's a genius...

If The Disaster Artist couldn't muster anything more than a Best Screenplay nomination (which Straight Outta Compton did too), I doubt we're looking at Best Picture or Best Actor shyt here

There's like 5 Hip Hop biopics and one is Eminem. For a Black music genre Vanilla Ice should be around the 100th if not later.

I feel you.

Maybe I'm just in a good mood today (:russ:), or maybe I'm not as hung up on the word "biopic" as others are.

To me, this is probably gonna be more like Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping than 42 or Straight Outta Compton. And like Popstar, I'm probably not gonna watch more than 15 minutes of it.

I could be wrong though.

Actually, Popstar is a very funny movie. lol
Yes, and I have longed for our genre heavyweights to get thoughtful, accurate and meaningful biopics on the big screen. Something like Ray, Straight Outta Compton and Walk the Line and less like Notorious and All Eyez on Me. So I guess I am extra sensitive on the issue.

It's gonna have to be a comedy then. And the disaster artist was very mediocre overall. Pretty much forgotten, I think this will be another parody slash dramedy. See what the trailer brings if that ever drops.
