I think the part where he talks about how someone laughed at his jokes says it all.

I think his integrity hit him. People were laughing AT him rather than with him. And I think I know the people he was talking about.

Yeah but leave it up to Napoleon to somehow use this story to shyt on religion. :skip:

True. I remember SO many white dudes back then who loved recite the "There's blacks folks...and there's nikkas"

That's another joke that only black ppl truly get the meaning behind the joke.

I thought I remembered reading an article about Rock mentioning how he stopped doing those jokes b/c white ppl were reciting them too much. But maybe I didn't....if I did I'm sure someone on here can find it.

See and that's what I don't get,why should Chris Rock,Chapelle, black people have to regret doing jokes or stop saying things because ignorant white people find a way to ruin shyt:mjlol:...that was a classic bit said out of love by Chris Rock that now is not as fun to watch because you know how its been spun:snoop:...But that aint Chris Rocks fault, and im glad he didn't just quit on EVERYBODY like Chapelle did:mjpls:....Chapelle probably still performing in front of thousands of white people who may or may not get his jokes....if he really wanted to do something he could've got on his show and said "fukk all you white people who are taking my shyt out of context and saying shyt you know you shouldn't be sayin to me in public"...instead he ran off:manny:....its his own sanity and if he couldn't handle it he did the right thing by leaving....but @Napolean is right in that "he seems mentally weak" statement....I wanna clarify that's all im cosigning cuz god knows what else he mighta said in this thread:mjlol:...it really boils down to him not being able to handle the fame, all that race shyt mighta played a part but kinda gets the :wtb:....cant believe that's the first time he's made a white person laugh uncontrollably at the wrong time,or first time he's heard white fans repeating jokes back to em or lines that made him uncomfortable.....if its the sheer amount of cacs caccin that got to em that still goes back to fame versus him having too much pride as a black man narrative...I went for that at first but more I thought about it it didn't add up,its just better than saying I couldn't handle the fame.

I agree w/ most of what you said. And yeah it sucks that black comedians have to live with the consequences of simple jokes/sketches b/c certain segments of white ppl don't know how to not be idiots.

But as far as him being mentally weak, alot of famous ppl never wanted to be too famous. Dave seems like a dude who just wants to tell jokes & chill. Like he was probably the kid in school always saying something funny just because. And ultimately it led him to a sustaining career in showbiz....but we all know some ppl who are just naturally funny.

At some point, they prob offered him that $50 mil but told or implied to him that he needed to keep doign stuff like the nikkar fam, and other racial sketches, and it got to his integrity.

People smiling in your face b/c they're getting enjoyment out of you clowning aspects of your race probably didnt sit well w/ him.

:mjlol:

I'm laughing with you, not at you.

Dave has been a standup since he was 14 and literally has not done anything but show business. I think that has more bearing on why it was so weird to be so rich all of a sudden. imagine 20 years of just trying to make it/grinding and then all of a sudden you have more money than you can possibly imagine. He basically hit the lottery. And a lot of them lottery winners do end up letting the money kill them in one way or another.

I think black comedians need to not have the majority of their material be about stuff that only black people are allowed to laugh at. I think its time to find ways to be funny with out having to go back to black people struggles or exploiting the fact that we can use the N word and nobody else can.. There are other funny things to talk about that can happen to all races but black people always run to race jokes then get mad if a white person recites it or thinks its funny, if he walked away it should have been because he felt like he was doing black people a dis service by getting white people to laugh at our struggle... basically what im saying is he brought that onto himself, and im sure he could of came back by now on another network or some independent outlet and told the jokes he wanted to tell by now, shyt he could even get a podcast and do it his way. I think he couldnt handle the fame

I agree with the first part of this completely and actually wrote a series of papers on this subject this past semester. While it was needed and effective for a long time, relying on race material today is little more than tradition. Today's modern white comic is at least as funny as a black one when it comes to these topics because 'white guilt' is en vogue these days. As far as why he walked away, that's ultimately up to him. I think it's unfair to say that he should have done it for some specific noble, cause that makes him look like a hero. He's a comedian. A fool is the opposite of a hero. As a human, you're allowed to just stop doing shyt. You don't even really need a reason. For better or worse, you could just stop doing something.
