If you are a Chappelle fan you may or may not know that he said he walked off the set and ended his show on Comedy Central about 10 years ago. Since then, he has done virtually no work in mainstream media. He is deliberately absent to the point that recording him will get you booted from a show. In this video he breaks down how it was his creative process that was being hindered by large audiences. Does this increase his celebrity in your eyes? Does it make him more legendary or artistic? Thoughts in general on that?

Dave is one of a kind. I guess at this point, he wants a George Wallace type career.

A regular show in Vegas?

Nah. I think he just wants to be a successful working comedian. He probably doesn't want to do movies or TV shows because of the celebrity it comes with.

btw, George Wallace is not doing Vegas anymore.

He's still on billboards out here as Mr. Vegas. When did this happen? :wtf:

Do you think it's because he's religious? :lupe: :skip:

Wanting to maintain artistic integrity makes you weak? He's weak for not c00ning? :wtf:

Why do you get that impression, breh?
1. I think his religion has a bit to do with it
2. He's super vague about "artistic integrity" Comedians are a strange breed. They are fukked up enough to tell the stories they tell, but they think way too highly of themselves sometimes. I think Dave thought he fukked himself with all the racial humor, but I don't think he was really mentally prepared to reorient himself to what he wanted to be.

I think the part where he talks about how someone laughed at his jokes says it all.

I think his integrity hit him. People were laughing AT him rather than with him. And I think I know the people he was talking about.

The great thing about those interviews is that white people don't really get what he was alluding to cause he never says it. Unless you REALLY understand what he's pointing at indirectly then you'll never understand.

But my point remains, I just dont think he was really handling the pressure well.

I won't argue about your opinion regarding the last sentence, but I'm glad we see eye to eye on the laughing thing bothering him. He clearly was uncomfortable with white folks laughing at him rather than getting the irony of his jokes with him

He pointed this out on inside the actors studio years ago. This is the film room so I assume enough of you watch it or have watched it or at least seen it but when he was on the show he explained why he left and said the same basic thing: he's going through airports and hearing stuff he felt uncomfortable with and felt like people were laughing at him instead of with him. Even said some white people came up him dropping the N bomb and that threw him off too. I got no problem with him quitting the show if none of this sat well with him and I'm not sure it would've sat well with me either. I can say sure I would be but I'd never know unless I'm n that position.
