The mixing is almost certainly a deliberate choice...its trying to be abrasive and lo-fi. It works.

The shyt is just crafted well. All the beats, all the beat switches, the way it plays around with some familiar sample trends (90s r&b, gospel) in unique ways...it's just dope.

I largely agree on most of his post-2012 material, before that though his voice wasn't like that and he's always been one of the sharpest lyricists of his era.







And even when he did rap more energetically he was able to reel it in a lot more before it became annoying.





The Hybrid and XXX are legit two of the top 20 albums of the 2010s.
