JPEGmafia has been my favorite artist for 5 years and still comes out with heat. Now because of this album i need to check out Danny Brown soon.
I know it’s gonna sound wild disrespectful, but JPEG kinda reminds me of Because the Internet era Childish Gambino. More so, if that Gambino continued experimenting with lofi and hard sounds clashing.
Is the sample in "Run the Jewels" well known? I know its a house song but I don't know if that was just popular in Detroit.
Peggy is more irreverent than Donald.
While Donald actually can write a more cohesive project, JPEG takes more risks. Gambino is one of them artists where not one second of his shyt isn't planned.
JPEG comes off as pure inspiration. He might change his mind in the middle of a beat and say "fukk it" and just have it be a whole separate idea.
I think this album shows that, but with Danny there it let's Peggy be more of a producer, so his verses come off stronger because you hear him less.
I think the album closes terribly, but the first 10-11 tracks slap. And btw, the lack of mastering is totally intended.
I completely agree
JPEG to me feels like he's just trying to get whatever he needs expressed out, doesn't matter if it's going to be jarring.
Donald feels more like an art student that refuses to be blunt (unless its for the sake if artistry), always trying to find the most creative and cohesive way to express something.
This is dope. Always love the vibe and lyrics from JPEG.
Only thing that could def be better is the mixing. I can barely catch any of Danny's raps because hes washed out in the mix.
Different album but this shyt went dumb hard
Its deliberate. In 2023, there's so much post-processing that's built into even the microphones, that to make shyt sound like that, its purposeful. Same with the mixing of some of the beats.
Yeah I get that, I just didn't like that choice. But over time it may reveal itself.
I remember Fantastic Damage 20 years ago and not being able to hear what he was saying because the mix is saturated, but over time I can hear the lyrics. Maybe its like that.
