Everytime someone not of our people does evil, we invariably have some of you run in and find some way to attack our own people about it. Charity starts at home, understanding should start with our own, and working to eliminate ignorance should also begin with our own. You don't accomplish any of that, if your first instinct is to meet ignorance with ignorance and insults.

I hate how Penny is being treated as a hero for killing a man who was hungry, tired, and crying out for something to eat, especially given the racist nature of his defense. The fact that there's not much talk about how the defense used Jordan Neely's sickle cell trait to diminish Penny's responsibility, nor any strong media criticism of how he's being treated as a hero, shows how deeply entrenched racial biases are in both the legal and media systems. They successfully shielded Penny from accountability by blaming Neely's death on his own condition instead of Penny's unnecessary excessive force. And people are celebrating it. I hate that this is our "normal" reality.
