Exactly. How many of us felt this way? I'm not the only one thinking it. I'm just the one who made the thread

and tbh, I waited like 3 weeks to make this thread cause I been feeling like this for a min. :pachaha: It took me seeing an extended preview today that had me like

:why: now wait a minute. I've had enough of this

:pachaha:
Yea Brehluuya was having fun out there with the accent :mjlol:

Except a Nigerian Brit is gonna play Marley in the upcoming biopic. :russ:

Like someone pointed out, it ain't like American actors have that 1960s Chicago accent either, ALL actors use a fake accent for their roles. That's why is "acting", it's always fake.

Did anyone have this energy when Forrest Whitaker played Idi Amin or when Daniel Day-Lewis played Abraham Lincoln? When Denzel Washington played a British soldier or, hell, when Sidney Poitier started in multiple major CRM roles including as a young black man from Chicago?
And Jamaicans have the right to feel some type of way about that if they want to.

All that other shyt you talking about is irrelevant "but but what about:sadcam:" female argument type shyt.

Son shouldn't have gotten the role at all.
Shouldnt even have been in consideration for it honestly.
luckily for him Hollywood is on these UK Actors dikks right now for whatever reason.

Norfeast groovin…
I wasn’t convinced at all from the commercials. He don’t look like Fred and doesn’t convey the passion and charisma of Fred. Not to mention you gotta have the Chicago accent down pat if you’re playing Fred. Too important of a figure to drop the ball on this shyt. :shaq2:

Edit: I’m strictly talking acting btw. fukk all that dumbass diaspora war shyt. Idgaf where the nikka from I just wanted a more convincing performance.

Should he have turned down the role? And which ADOS actor could have done better? I don’t believe Jamie Fox, will Smith and other high caliber ADOS actors would have taking that role.

I'm not supporting him at all. I'm not gonna watch a film with a guy in the main role who said he's tired of talking about race and proceeds to accept a role that's about race.

It's completely disrespectful to me. I love how people (not you) are telling us to shut up and support. I don't have to support Daniel Kaluuya in ish. He's not that good of an actor if he can't even capture even a smidgen of the person's essence that he's supposed to be portraying.

100%. I could write paragraphs on this but as a 1st gen Nigerian... if a movie was coming out about Chinua Achebe or Fela Kuti, and a Jamaican or ADOS was playing it, I would be absolutely livid. Also its an added layer because he's a revolutionary

If you are not from that country, you intrinsically would not understand the culture that surrounds the plight of a certain community. I would be pissed if an actor needed a Summer reading list and an accent coach to be caught up to speed on such a culturally important person

That isn't even 1/10th as bad as what Denzel Washington said and I don't expect anyone to be cancelling him.

If you look to actors for your takes them you already lost. No one is going to start carrying movies with hyper-militant/woke actors only, not would it somehow make the movie any better.

Hilarious at this point that Fred Hampton Jr. signed off on the casting but Coli posters who ain't even about that life are casting shade.
