We had the option of either trading for PG or moving forward with D'Lo and making a play at PG in free agency. That gave us leverage. Giving away D'Lo to get assets to use in a trade for PG without a guarantee from the Pacers lost us all of that leverage. Plus it's not like the 27th, 28th and Clarkson is some amazing deal or even much better than the original offer of just the 28th and Clarkson. The Pacers are basically in the same position whether they decide to accept the trade or lose him for nothing. While the only way we can sign PG and another max player is if we have his bird rights. This shifts the majority of the pressure to us to get a deal done or we've lost D'Lo for nothing. That's the only logical explanation to make that awful offer to the Kings

A FAs contract doesn't just come off the books, it's replaced by a cap hold like their there anyway until their signed by their own team or another. Or you can renounce their rights but then you can't go over the cap to re-sign them back. Cousins cap hold for next summer is $27mil. The reason to keep Lopez around all year is if 2 max guys wanted to come, they wouldn't care about letting Lopez & his $33 mil cap hold go.

Okay,I stand correct....however...the lakers can still get Bron,George and Cousins on the same team.I'll post my plan later in this thread.
