will they shut down DC comics probably not .. but a shakeup yea..

Do we need 5 bat/superman/flash/etc titles a month with all different stories (sometimes the stories and arcs crossed over others not)... NO..

they need to really make DC Universe work. dont have the shoes on HBO MAX and the CW.. then there's no point of paying for it.

I feel you.:ehh:

I can see how maybe it can be false news.

But I can also see how there may be some truth to it and more going on in the inside that the GP knows.:hubie:

Like prime example, years ago I worked for Wachovia.... that shyt was low key going down worse and faster than we let on. One day we came to work hearing that we got bought out by Capital One and they even legit started passing out new manuals and paperwork with CapOnes logo and info on it.

Then like a day later we come to work and management like “throw them books away, we Wells Fargo now”:dwillhuh:

Come to find out, shyt was worse than what was let on and if they ain’t do the WF deal, they was legit about to close offices and just inform us not to come in the next morning as none of us would’ve had jobs anymore.

Information circulates in waves like throwing a rock in a lake..... the further you are away, you less you really know what’s true or false and we the GP almost always are the furthest :usure:
Wachovia was going down the shytter for a long time and everyone knew how bad it was. We knew in Philly they were getting their name taken off the Wachovia Center long before that name finally came down just like we knew that First Union's name was coming off the building before Wachovia's went up.

DC is still a profitable IP for a company that needs lots of content to pump out to all of their media arms.

That's where the difference is.

One other thing DiDio deserves credit for is, despite the initial missteps with Black Label and the Vertigo relaunch being a disaster, it was a legitimately a good idea to cull the main DC Universe titles and focus on things like YA graphic novels, mature readers, Hill House, Last God and Sandman Universe. Even the Walmart DC giants were smart even though some comic book shops were petty AF about it.

The industry needs to move away from the direct market if it wants to thrive again. People will always want their floppies to collect and display, but the industry needs to focus on getting their titles seen in more places, like supermarkets, book stores, school book fairs, and a better focus on digital. It was disappointing losing titles like Green Arrow, Titans and Green Lantern Corps in the process, but it was still a smart decision to expand the market.

And the fact is, not every character can support their own ongoing or even a mini, and options like Black Label and the YA graphic novels give those characters focus that they otherwise wouldn't have received. Nobody would be checking for a series about The Question, but a Black Label mini written by Jeff Lemire immediately gets a level of attention and prestige a regular series wouldn't.

The Beast Boy YA graphic novel apparently has really good preorder numbers on Amazon right now, and it's not even due out until September. If they gave Beast Boy an ongoing right now, it probably wouldn't even sell 15k.

These are the things that the industry needs to do to stay relevant in an era where American comics are fighting (and losing) the battle against manga and webtoons. And that was largely a DiDio decision.

Maybe but maybe not

I wouldn’t be so quick to all out dismiss this shyt though.

Also what we may assume is a profit may not necessarily be looked at as a profit to them.

Say they make $15M off the comics, yea we may think that’s great but the higher ups may be in someone’s ass demanding to know why didn’t they make $80M

Either way, I’m sure all will reveal itself in time.

Until then, harmless jokes ain’t gonna hurt no one. I’m sure many will have some, I honestly hope no one takes any of this too seriously until we get confirmation one way or another

I cant imagine DC Comics actually merging with Marvel. Despite the shytty DC movies that flood the market (outside of the Joker and Nolans Batman) The IP for these characters are still valuable. I can see maybe a licensing deal with Disney / Marvel (which would still be nuts) and maybe Marvel publishing DC comics - which isnt that insane. Waaaay back in the day, I think DC published Marvel Comics for a brief period

if true, given the right writers, it could be gold. jlavengers was a good series, as was amalgam. the problem comes in the limited publishing space.

I doubt the 5th Generation stuff will be included but the rest of 5G isn't really that bad with it making it explicitly clear that everything that has happened in the publishing history of DC actually happened.
But if you were looking forward to the future of DC being Luke Fox as Batman, Capt. Boomerang Jr as The Flash, Jon Kent as Superman, a new Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Lantern then I hope you won't be too disappointed.
why do a majority of you guys react so negatively to ideas ? This is the comics anything they do can be reversed if need be . I’m curious where they are going with 5G .
Also bendis young justice run is fun actually reminds me of thr OG run plus he brought back Conner and gave tim drake a less lame code name

If you honestly believed there was even the slightest chance of Disney buying DC Comics you're an idiot :heh:
Exactly. Dc can merchandise and they have fail safes in Johns and Snyder if things go too crazy . Right now marvel got the Hickman package going for the X-Men let’s see how the dark metal sequel does

THIS! The first comic book I ever purchased was X-Men Vol. 2 #1 at 7-Eleven way back in 1991. Was going to buy candy and walked by the magazine rack and saw Wolverine and Cyclops on the cover. It stood out to me and instead of buying candy that day I bought that comic. Nearly 30 years later and I still have that same issue, although it cover is gone and pages are yellow, it's still priceless to me.

I'm sure lots of comic readers first discovered comics at convenience stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. If the comic industry wants to survive they need to attract new, YOUNG readers. These kids are not going to comic book shops to buy comics. Make these things more accessible and also provide more bang for your buck. Charging $4+ for a 22 comic is seen as a ripoff. Double the page count.
