I remember when the History Channel was WWII half the day, and various shows about historical architecture/buildings the other half. Now it's Atlantis, aliens, and reality shows

Well, the problem is that people like to claim being an intellectual, nerdy, or being overall an intelligent person, but they don't want to do the actual brain work that comes with being high minded. They go ahead and watch "educational" networks like TLC and the History Channel an they end up having their delusions of intelligence satiated while still being provided entertainment for someone as dumb as they might be.

Honestly one of the worst things I've ever seen...:snoop:

Why do they pretend that these dudes are actually out here doing this stuff when it's clearly not real? One segment of the show has "moonshiners", out there pretending to make moonshine. The other half follows an ATF agent....:beli: fukk OFF Discovery.

Only thing I can vouch for is Survivorman...Les Stroud still my nicca....:myman:

How is this show legal? Can't the law just arrest these guys after the show airs? They are on camera breaking the law.

I agree.

I remember growing up (I was lucky enough to have cable most of the time), TLC and the Discovery Channel used to have some dope shyt, especially when it comes to science. In fact I remember watching shows about the Solar System, Cosmology, Biology, etc.

Now all I see is reality shows and interior designers. :why:

At least I got the Internet now. :manny:

It's legal because these dudes clearly can't actually be doing this stuff. They might be just going through the motions, showing how "this is what we WOULD do", but there is no way around it...they can't be actually making moonshine.

Discovery is just full of shyt....:pachaha:

I'd be okay with that. Nothing wrong with a speculative show, and even if they portray is as "reality", at least we'd get to see a re-enactment of how these guys do this stuff. The problem is that Discovery takes it too far, has these cats going on fake buys and drop offs and shyt...

I noticed that Curiosity is even kinda wack now....some very silly subjects, I don't watch most of them.

Through the Wormhole >>>

The only ep, I saw this past season, was when they crashed the plane, after the topics seemed boring...

Through the Wormhole, is alright, I just don't like how they tend to jeer off-topic, by producing somewhat of a practical example, that's intended to be relevant, I prefer if the show were to fully elaborate on a concept, then, throw in their semi-relevant examples...

Those channels when I was a little kid :lawd: :ohlawd:
If I wasn't watching cartoons, I was learning sh1t about
evolution, how different species adapted, countries that fell,
kings that were assassinated etc.
And this continued well into my teens :yeshrug:
Then it slowly got wack, it's not even that I dislike
reality T.V. Shows it's just there is very little balance on the channels that
do have them.

Nowadays you can't expect to learn ANYTHING even
if it's just the summarized one hour episode of a complex subject.

I can't even stomach that stupid ancient aliens bullsh1t.
Nowadays I gotta youtube and/or download the old stuff.

Reality shows ruined TV...the type of shyt they got on TLC now makes MTV look good. Honey boo boo....my big fat gypsy wedding...or some damn wedding show :snoop:. History is pawn stars or aliens 24/7. Discovery I dont even know but they prolly not far behind. They prolly do get more ratings showing that type of shyt tho which is the sad part

The sad truth is that the small niche markets these networks appeal to isn't large enough to draw in the profits needed to continue the educational programming.

I've worked in TV for nearly 10 years, and the 1 thing I learned that always holds true to any media platform: People love a freak show.
