Birth control isn't causing a woman to gain 50 lbs. The studies they've done said most women don't gain weight and those that do only put on about 5 lbs.
People also like to use thyroid issues as an excuse but that also only causes about 5 lbs of weight gain.
It's no more complicated than excessive eating and a lack of exercise. Maybe there's stress or depression causing her to eat more but we don't know that. Some people just let themselves go and don't like working out.
