When you wake up is it in a panic? Do you know it's because you couldn't breathe?

Can someone have sleep apnea and not realise something is wrong?

If you wake up in a panic and can't breathe it can be acid reflux or even laryngospasms. Both can be symptoms of Apnea, but can be their own. Apnea means you unknowingly are in a "shallow" sleep where you wake up several times per hour because you aren't getting enough oxygen(keep in mind, you are unaware you are waking up that many times). I had the laryngospasms before I got on the mask. You'll know if you have Apnea because you will wake up tired, sometimes like you've been working hard. Red eyes, feeling like your head is bloated. Often sleepy just doing regular activities as if you didn't sleep. The big symptom is not just snoring, but during that snoring you breathing is really labored to the point you're making lots of strange noises. Just ask anyone who sleeps within 30 feet of you if they hear you breathing loudly or making noises like you can't breathe or even stop breathing at times.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't snore but this talk of waking up tired has me wondering. I guess deep, restful sleep isn't guaranteed each night.
