And nice gesture but whats the point in getting a MD from a Cuban University that won't be recognize anywhere in the states?

Now that obeezy opened up communication I could see that actually being overturned. In ten years America is gonna be back to being big brother to Cuba and these policies will still be in effect. Cuban university students can't even graduate now if they don't learn English as a second language

Propaganda purposes. They only took in people like Davis and Shakur to piss on the US. If you are a black foreigner from US or Canada then yes you will be treated great but black Cubans are shytted on

Didn't they welcome a lot of black revolutionaries that the CIA tried to destroy and pin crimes on? Dr. Angela Davis said if she had not been acquitted she would've just moved there because it was so pro black.

Yes, they helped fund movements in the States and in Africa for countries attempting to gain independence. They even sent troops to fight against the Europeans, with Fidel and Che accompanying them.

They also were the main reason Ebola didn't do more damage than it did in West Africa. They not only sent more nurses and doctors to the region, including other African countries, but they trained local nurses and doctors.

The Black Cubans are actually scared that Cuba is now on diplomatic terms with America because shyt was hell before Castro came into power.

From what my mother tells me, they also helped Ethiopia in the 70s by military intervention in the region of Ogaden.

True. Obama has opened up dialogue and eased relations with Cuba. There is still a lot to be done. But speaking strictly from Medical standpoint, its a network good ole boys like system. Unless you want to work for the undeserved communities for life, no institution will recognize that degree. They still think these Caribbean medical schools are uncredited dumps for people to cheap to get into a "regular" school. You will never get hired over someone who went to school here. And fukk the BS, the whole point of going through the hell that is medical school it to make money.

It's recognized in California, and you can work all around Latin America with their degree.

You graduate from there and you can practice in Cali.

Cuban doctors and nurses under consideration for Nobel Peace Prize

I don't think people realize that Cuba was one of the primary reasons West African countries didn't completely collapse last year.

A lot of the Cuban nurses went over there knowing that they could die helping out and many of them did die. Writing off their altruism as "making America mad" is a shytty and cynical thing to do.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Funny that this thread came up.

One of my employees is Cuban. She traveled there with her husband recently to see family and plans on returning in a few months.

Recently, a group of Cuban balseros landed in Miami beach and it made a bit of news here locally.

In our conversation about the event, I asked, "why don't the Black Cubans ever come on the boats?"

She didn't really have an answer. She said that it was interesting that she asked, cause her and her husband hadn't been there in like 20+ years and she said her husband expected there to be no more Whites cause they all keep coming to the US.

Well, upon getting there it was obvious that there's still plenty of everyone in the country. And they are all really pretty poor for the most part, no matter the race.

:francis: Eventually, as we conversed, she just said "maybe they're afraid to come :yeshrug:"

People with medical degrees from other countries practice all over the US. All is required is to pass the USMLEs and you can practice here. The best doctor I've ever had was educated in El Salvador and ended up coming here not only to practice but also to teach at a top Med school. Everyone who practices medicine in the US has to pass the USMLE whether you go to med school here or not. So their graduates CAN and DO practice here. So there is a point of going. You get a superior medical education for free in a welcoming environment.
