Those loans don't go away, ever....people aren't realizing it at all. 80K is going to balloon to 100 plus if defaults and penalties occur.
EVER. And she don't even do shyt with her degree now. She just wants to open a hair shop or some bullshyt. Idk. I only got bout 8k of debt but I got a CS degree on the way by the end of the year so thats gonna be nothing to pay off.

Its alotta black folk who go to college just to go to college just for that college diploma. Family pressure included even for myself.

I was doing biotechnology and it was rarely any black females in my science/math classes, probably had 3 at the most . I switched to poli sci cuz I dont need college anymore only to please fam and it was a lot more especially in my psychology classes.

Thread is already devolving into a "we hate Black women" thread.
But this is the result of being Black, essentially.
Underfunded school districts, parents who likely didn't go to college and are unaware of opportunity, private schools and incredibly high-tuition, predatory student lending, Black students taking longer to graduate than other races of students, Black students shying away from STEM fields due to poor mathematics education in primary and secondary school, and lack of camaraderie in their majors. All of these apply to Black women doubly, as thy attend college at higher-rates than Black men, and the misogyny in STEM is very real.

What are those women and men studying in college?

Women tend to flock to soft majors that don't pay well after graduation.

All four-year degrees aren't created equal.

The work and effort a sociology major has to put in to graduate is not the same as what an engineering major has to put in.

No disrespect to sociology majors. But, engineering majors get paid more for a reason.

Most people flock to "soft majors." Most jobs dont require you have a "hard major."

Granted there are far more higher earning degrees than others but you can still earn because as mentioned in my first point, most jobs dont require a "hard degree."

Also, black students dont have the parental help that white students have which will explain why they have to take out more loans. Dont blame black women and their "soft degrees." Blame black women for not having parents that bothered to save for them. How often do we hear about the broke college student. Why is it expected for you to be a broke college student? What were your parents doing for the first 18 years of your life? Save for your education?

Also black people may want to consider public schools as they are cheaper and student locally so you dont have to get loans to pay for your room and board.

Any opportunity to shyt on black women.

This is another big thing.
White and Asian students are more likely to have parents/mentors who attended college and can guide them through.
Black students are far less likely.
And outside of Biology, Nursing, and Psychology, most STEM fields are vast majority men, and even moreso White and East Asian men.

i swear it seems like black women stay in school forever chasing bullshyt degree after degree

It's not to bash black women but that's some reall shyt. Here in atl we got 3 HBCU's, and all of em cost about 40k a year full price w/no scholarships:snoop:

It's fcked up bc we gotta do student loan exit counseling where they tell you how much you owe and some Nikkas were joking like "Man I ain't never paying this back:whew:" but on the inside you could tell they were like :mjcry:

It's common sense tho during a business decision. Why put up 30-40k a year/4 years just to come out making 40-50k? Then you gotta factor in the time after graduation you may have looking for work.

You can finesse an instate school situation and manage that a little better but still:francis:

To me It's just a lack of knowledge. I got grandparents who think just getting a degree is a guranteed ticket to making X amount of money, when that's not the case. Then old heads pass that on to younger kids, and got some of em fcked up. Ppl just don't know how to navigate some of these financial situations

The thing about "soft majors" is a history of devaluation. The social sciences get incredibly, incredibly deep, especially when you get into research, but due to social devaluation, they're far more less likely to be paid. They also tend to have a higher-population of students in them, so devaluation of major comes from overpopulation.
You know how these threads tend to be.

Dude generalizing black women too much up in here. Many of them are our allies brehs.

If they are making mistakes then let's educate them on their youth so they can avoid this in their later years. In fact this effects both genders.

Our community of men and women both need better financial education really
