Whats so groundbreaking about this? Since its not going to be in regular theaters Its basically a low budget sequel being released straight to dvd. netflix is just the new blockbuster video which used to do this all the time...
breh.

it's gonna be released in IMAX theatres too..but not regular theatres

this could lead to big things. Fincher already said he'd be down to do smaller budget $30 mil type flicks and other directors could follow suit.

see the big picture breh, its deeper than crouching tiger :rudy:

Its not really being made for imax/ theater though.. its being made for netflix. i could see if this was a legit 100 million dollar theater film being available to watch at home the same day its in theaters but its not. Its just a glorified low budget straight to dvd movie that will get some limited theatrical play at imax. Yall are just falling for the netflix pr spin.

But that's the point breh. Say Spielberg had an idea for a movie that he wanted to do for about 50 mill and decided to release it right to Netflix. The difference between the direct to video shyt from back in the day and this is that Netflix is announcing themselves as a viable film studio in the process, not just a distribution channel like blockbuster or hollywood video. And it creates a chasm between theaters and film companies because Regal and Cinemark have already come out and said they refuse to show the movie in their IMAX theaters but what happens if you get the next Spielberg flick or the next Marvel flick released in IMAX and directly on Netflix? Is a theater chain going to draw a line in the sand or eventually cave to the pressure of missing out on all that money? These are major studios getting behind this stuff, not Asylum or a made for tv Sci Fi channel flick

I hear what your saying. And i agree a flick like avengers 2 being out on netflix and theaters the same time would be a bold risky move (and prob counterproductive if the goal is the maximize profits) but thats not what this article is about. Whether its speilberg or joe blow directing... Nothing special about netflix having lower budget original programming..

And its been a while but im pretty sure i remember seeing a blockbuster exclusives section for some straight to dvd movies back in the day. regardless its the same concept. How is this different from hbo original movies... like say tuskegee airmen movie they did or something?

Because of the amount of subscribers Netflix has and continues to gain. Because ticket prices are up and movie attendance is down as streaming becomes a more affordable way for audiences to enjoy movies. Because the VOD market has gotten bigger over time and because there are more power brand directors, producers and studios willing to go that route, meaning you can get more money behind it than if joe blow off the block makes a movie for netflix. If Disney or Amblin decided to get behind this that's a big deal and that's why this article is a big deal. It's not like it's just on Netflix and Netflix isn't producing it they're distributing it on their channels while a major studio is footing the bill. That Tuskegee airmen flick wasn't getting IMAX distribution when it came out, this is. HBO films isn't a powerhouse movie studio like TWC is. It's just forward thinking and realizing if this works out for all parties involved, other studios will take notice and try it. And with Netflix attracting top tier talent for its tv shows (Fincher, Spacey) and with hollywood trying to figure out new ways to get product out to consumers who are changing with the times, this is a big deal

You can only get the episodes as fast as the networks or studios allow breh

They dont got money to throw at these studios to make it happen a little faster though:patrice:...raise the price if u got to...i check netflix all the time and its been the same bullshyt on there for a while now:beli:

Studios and networks don't want to cut further into their viewership. That's why it's normally a year after they air. That would be silly on their part to allow day and date
