There's always going to certain types of movies that warrant the big screen experience like a Gravity, Guardians, etc but Netflix picking up the smaller type of movies that aren't going to demand a huge budget could be a very wise business proposition for them.

The streaming movie side of Netflix is the area I see most people complain about it, with them having a lackluster selection and recycling the same films. They have really made inroads with the TV side. If they can do something like once a month, we give customers an exclusive movie that premieres on Netflix first (maybe same time in theaters like CTHD2) it could a good strategy.

It was bound to happen. TV is the new playground for Hollywood. This is a particularly good deal for foreign films because many of them aren't profitable enough for theaters but a theatrical release is almost always required by the film makers. With this deal they get right to where the money is (people checking for these movies on Netflix), reduce pirating (because they can watch it right away on Netflix) and cinephiles can still experience them on the big screen. It's a win-win scenario.

Whats so groundbreaking about this? Since its not going to be in regular theaters Its basically a low budget sequel being released straight to dvd. netflix is just the new blockbuster video which used to do this all the time...

The first movie only had like a $18 million dollar budget but made over 200 million. Its a big deal because this easily could have been another Hollywood cash in but they've decided to go a pioneering route.
