It did two things. First he'd been spiraling down ever since it was revealed that he was Creed's son but the kid showed him it was okay, immediately after that scene he gets his head together and goes back to Rocky to start training.

It also was probably put it to connect the running scene since he had no interaction with any Philly riders before that.
