Something is crazy suspect with this story...they're going out of their way to say he was duped, but I just refuse to believe he's this gullible...and of course people are posting inconsistencies with the quickness.

He's either gay, or pathetically sad when it comes to relationships. One or the other.

Niners and Pats are two of the biggest homosexual fanbases so why wouldn't they take Manti Gay'o?

A girlfriend with a very detailed biography, no less. It was an idiotic game to play if the goal was to keep his homosexuality a secret.

To the topic at hand, this guy is definitely lying. His reasons for lying remain to be seen, but there's no damn way he was completely oblivious to the fact that his "girlfriend" didn't exist. Too many pieces of the story don't add up.

You never heard the rumors bout all the gay rub-down rumors that happened in the Pats lockerrooms in the late 90s?

Belichick actually was the subject of gay rumors for a long time and part of why he made Drew Bledsoe commit that is because Tom is a lot cuter than he was, but again, I'm not gay, i'm just telling you what i've heard.

Also harbaugh? Don't get me started. Back at Michigan, the boys in the lockerroom called him "Slim Jim Hard-Baugh" because it was rumored after he hit the showers with the boys, he'd come (double entendre don't ask me how) walking out toweling down with his privates at full salute.

Whether he's gay or not, he's not a "dumbass" for going this far. His sexual orientation is irrelevant in that regard. It's possible maybe he did it to up his heisman stock, draft stock, and milk the media-darling perception of the ND program this year. Him being suss had some part to do with it, but there was definitely more motivations for such a deception.

Also, he's not as dumb as it seems. He almost got away with a brilliant scheme. I honestly applaud him to some extent. He delivered a lot of Oscar worthy acting performances and trolled everybody.

If you don't declare you have a girlfriend, the media is going to want to know why the star linebacker for Notre Dame isn't getting it in. Who knows, man. Maybe he's ashamed, maybe he figured he could get away with it. This story was win-win, he get's p*ssy AND he's sensitive and has a a story that would make a Walt Disney screenplay.

It catapulted him to stardom and the subject of national praise and him seem a lot more valuable than he probably is.

He's not dumb, though. Brazen and over zealous with his plot? Sure, but a dumbass? This slack-jawed, snaggle-toothed demon deserves a bit more credit.

It was a gamble, and sadly for his sake, he didn't win it.
