NYC ER Doc Breaks Down How Omicron Affects the Boosted, Vaxxed and Unvaccinated
According to well-known Manhattan ER doctor Craig Spencer, the omicron variant can be as mild as a cold - with the right vaccinations

A growing body of scientific evidence suggest the omicron variant of COVID-19 is less severe than the delta variant -- but according to one prominent New York City emergency room physician, it all depends on what shots you've had.

Omicron is surging out of control in the city, with some Manhattan neighborhoods approaching 20% positivity rates, and hospitalizations doubling or more in recent weeks, particularly in children.

Against that backdrop, the city's emergency rooms are seeing a huge spike in patients - the asymptomatic seeking tests, the symptomatic who don't know where else to go and those in the ER for other reasons altogether who end up having COVID anyway.

Craig Spencer, a Manhattan ER doctor affiliated with Columbia University who became a Twitter superstar in the early days of the pandemic for his running commentary on the battle against the virus, tweeted a detailed breakdown late Sunday of what omicron cases look like.

Omicron symptoms by vaccine type
"Every patient I’ve seen with Covid that’s had a 3rd ‘booster’ dose has had mild symptoms. By mild I mean mostly sore throat. Lots of sore throat. Also some fatigue, maybe some muscle pain. No difficulty breathing. No shortness of breath. All a little uncomfortable, but fine," Spencer wrote.

From there, it goes downhill - slowly, though.

"Most patients I’ve seen that had 2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna still had ‘mild’ symptoms, but more than those who had received a third dose. More fatigued. More fever. More coughing. A little more miserable overall. But no shortness of breath. No difficulty breathing. Mostly fine," he said.

For those who just had the one shot of the J&J vaccine and never took a booster, the situation isn't as good.

"Most patients I’ve seen that had one dose of J&J and had Covid were worse overall. Felt horrible. Fever for a few days (or more). Weak, tired. Some shortness of breath and cough. But not one needing hospitalization. Not one needing oxygen. Not great. But not life-threatening," he tweeted.

And then there are the unvaccinated, who by all data are being hospitalized at a rate 15x or more the vaccinated.

"And almost every single patient that I’ve taken care of that needed to be admitted for Covid has been unvaccinated. Every one with profound shortness of breath. Every one whose oxygen dropped when they walked. Every one needing oxygen to breath regularly," he said.

Spencer's recommendations were straightforward -- get vaccinated if you haven't, get a second dose of something else if you've had one J&J shot, and if you're eligible, get a booster.

"So no matter your political affiliation, or thoughts on masks, or where you live in this country, as an ER doctor you’d trust with your life if you rolled into my emergency room at 3am, I promise you that you’d rather face the oncoming Omicron wave vaccinated," Spencer concluded.

@RGM
we're now up to 7 positive covid tests out of our group of 13 that went to the Dominican Republic.
Wife and I are still showing no symptoms & may re test Saturday -That will be about 12 days from exposure.
Tested negative this past Sunday.
The only thing i noticed we did differently, was that we had N95 masks and they had the cheap 3 layer ones
and they walked around outside not masked up often and we masked up every time, even walking to restaurants.

@shonuff , you ignore the fact they had plenty of years of research, trial and error, and information to develop the vaccine. Yes, clinical trials were only 2 years, but they had all the RESEARCH to create a good vac.

We’re arguing over the irrelevancy and straying off subject. :beli:

ok and by that measure then weve had over 15 years with this type of virus -
Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that belong to the family Coronaviridae [1, 2]. These are enveloped viruses with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome and a nucleocapsid of helical symmetry. Their genome size is relatively large for RNA viruses, between 27 and 34 kB [3]. Coronaviruses infect mammals and birds causing varied symptoms such as respiratory tract disease and diarrhea. In humans, coronavirus infections have been shown to be potentially lethal. This is the case of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronaviruses.

In 2002–2003, the world experienced what would become the first of a series of lethal coronavirus infections. The disease denominated severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) would be characterized by high fever, eventually developing into shortness of breath and pneumonia [4]. Originating in southern China, the disease later would cause 8096 cases, resulting in 774 deaths in 26 countries [5]. Despite efforts from the scientific community, no vaccine became commercially available and SARS cases ceased to be reported from 2004 [4].

In September 2012, the world experienced the emergence of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus. Originated in Saudi Arabia, the infectious disease is characterized by mild respiratory symptoms, but these could develop into acute respiratory distress syndrome and death [6]. The disease has affected 27 countries, resulting in 2494 cases and 858 deaths [7]. MERS cases are still being reported but no major outbreak has been declared since 2015 [8]. As in the case of SARS, no commercial vaccine is available for MERS.

so ....

I literally said our bodies differ. I'm not saying everyone is gonna have a "decent experience" when dealing with this. Doesn't change the fact that the body can do a lot of amazing things and you're downplaying it's capabilities with or without a vaccine. :shaq2:
uhhh

your body cant DO the "amazing" things with COVID unless you take the vaccine - this is why there are over 800K dead people ...and millions of more sick

you are misconstruing or simply being purposefully obtuse about what he wrote- the mechanism of mRNA vaccines use the body mechanics instead of synthesis in a lab- he is in noway intimating what youre alleging which is that those who take the chance with getting COVID are as likely to fight it off arent doing anything less than those who take the vaccine

people refusing to take the vaccine when they are able to take it - only puts them and others at risk of infection... and prolongs and spreads this virus MORE than it should be that was the whole issue with herd immunity - its why you see places that have high vaccination rates they arent going through the conflict and turbulence that is occuring here mainly because of peoples insistence on ignoring or not abiding by the how a virus functions and spreads...and instead folk are going by their own research on the internets and FB

people like you - who insist that restrictions are too much - or new rules arent in keeping with what they feel is "comfortable" or run afoul of "muh freedoms" - or " youre tired of dealing with it"....is whats making this shyt last. you dont wanna wear a mask - except when you want to - you dont wanna have to not be around friends /family for holidays or vacations and dont want someone to tell you you cant go places, you come up with all sorts of ridiculous schemes comparisons and minimalization about the effects of this virus in order to avoid the shot.

and im not even gonna wade into the pool of the crazy with " its a plot" "it aliens" "its big pharma"" its the mark of the beast" "Its fake" etc

and in regards to your premise above that years spent searching are somehow applicable in actually deploying a vaccine - weve known about SARS since 2003 - this is SARS-COVID 2019 - thas over 15 years of knowledge about a virus which now in 2020 we had to do something about

so just like weve always known about polio and we did research on it for years until the discovery of a vaccine - how is that ok and not "too soon" to deploy a vaccine two years after it was discovered?

but over 15 years of exposure with SARS and a discovery and deployment in a year and a half or so is not enough time ?

youre being disingenuous in wanting to apply "time" as an assurance to one thing - yet claiming skepticism in another instance ignoring the time spent with it as well.....

There used to be a show called Lost in Space in reruns - the one from the 1960s not the new one on Netflix- if you dont know the premise, a family goes into outerspace and through an accident gets "lost in space" and among these people there is the character of Dr Smith and EVERY episode this dude was doing shyt to fukk up or undermine the efforts of these people to survive or get back to earth based on what HE wanted - his fears his selfish needs and ideas about what was going on around them - he constantly resisted undermined or was in conflict with the other 6 people who were all pulling together to try to solve a problem or get thru something....

at some point as a viewer you were like why "dont these people get rid of this guy already?" ....he is fukking shyt up constantly - but its a TV show - you cant do that especially since the object of the show is to illustrate how the selfish and petty acts of one person can mess up the efforts of a group...

but here we are in real life and we have a bunch of Dr Smiths running around the country making our situation worse by insisting on DOING their own thing, because they dont like the rules or limits or ideas or actions of people who know better...they wanna do their own thing

its an allegory that we seem to also not be able to get rid of our Dr Smiths as well.....
