I am not clear what this even means or why they don't think it is necessary. Hopefully we will get some more details shortly.

It means they're not recommending them for people over 16 because it may not be effective and it could produce other medical risks. They're weighing whether older, vulnerable populations should get them. Read the article.

FDA Panel Rejects Broad Pfizer Booster Plan, Mulls Limited One

A U.S. Food and Drug Administration panel of expert advisers voted against a third dose of the Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE vaccine for everyone 16 and older but appeared willing to consider a booster shot for a limited population of older adults and other vulnerable populations.

The FDA had asked the advisory panel to vote on whether the safety and effectiveness data submitted by the companies support approval of a booster dose for people age 16 and up. Panelists are discussing narrower options after rejecting that proposal in a 16-2 vote.

Some of the panelists indicated that while they see a potential need for older or other more vulnerable groups to receive a third dose, the need for younger people could be less pressing, and may pose other medical risks.

“There are very clear populations where a booster may be appropriate, such as elderly or immunocompromised,” said National Institutes of Health scientist Michael Kurilla. “It’s not clear to me that the data we’re seeing right now is applicable or necessary for the general population.”

Panelist Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, also questioned the wide framing of the FDA question, and raised concerns about the risk of myocarditis, a kind of heart inflammation, for younger men.

The concerns from the panel prompted the chairman of the committee to vote earlier than scheduled to allow the committee time to discuss other options.

Shares of Pfizer declined 2.3% in New York trading at 3:32 p.m., and BioNTech shares were down 5.8%. Shares of Moderna Inc., maker of a similar Covid vaccine, were down 5.1%.

They've streamed the entire meeting on Youtube if interested, as they've always done.

I should have been clearer about the point I was trying to make. I will read the article, but what I was trying to convey is that every year people get a new flu shot. I am trying to decipher what this means in relation to something like this Covid vaccine. Will people need a yearly dose of the Covid vaccine or does this just mean that people will not need this third dose. Maybe the answer will be buried in the article.

A major L for the Biden Administration :picard:

That's why I find it laughable that they are putting the vaccine mandate onus on OSHA who already understaffed and under-resourced as it is to take on that burden. Not to mention the fact that their fines are laughable for situations even worse than not having employees mandated. A lot of businesses don't even get a 4 figure fine for a major health or safety violation.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. A lot of us younger folk are ~6 months removed from getting vaccinated now, isn't data showing the effects are starting to wear off? Let alone factoring in variants?

I had a breakthrough case recently. Know some other vaxxed people who did too. I was ultimately fine, but I was pretty sick and down bad for a few days.

This is from the same meeting in which the vote was taken:

Most people, especially those that are younger than 30, are going to be unaffected by it. As has been said since the beginning, this is a virus that largely effects older populations.
