I have a bad feeling this catastrophe in India is going to boil into other parts of the world where herd immunity hasn't been reached. Its going to hit people hard who havn't been vaccinated yet.

It's already said that won't be achieved in da US.

Welp I guess we'll have to get booster shots and listen to all of the unvaxed motherfukkers say "see!!! I told you so!!!"

Even though they'd be the reason we'd need them in the first place.

no one knows what exactly herd immunity looks like from a numbers standpoint. It’s all a guess.

we have already exceeded the Loftiest of vaccine goals to date.

the positivity rate is 4.6%. Cases are down 12% from a week ago. Hospitalizations are down 8% and deaths are down 3%.

It seems like some people are waiting for someone to declare the pandemic is over before they move on with their life. That’s not going to happen but all signs are showing that people should be living their lives

This is not true.

You can determine the percentage needed for herd immunity by using the r naught of a virus.

Of course this would also include those that have been infected by covid itself.

But yes positivity rates would go down along with hospitalizations while the vaccinations still provide immunity. Which is also another question that needs to be asked (ie how long does immunity last if you don't have achieve herd immunity).

Seems like this shyt is over now as far as America is concerned

We still have 50,000-60,000 cases a day and about 700-800 deaths per day. Basically we're still in the same spot as we were in the late summer/early fall of 2020 BUT with a 1/3 of the adult population fully vaxxed.

Getting the case numbers down to below 10,000-20,000 per day means we'll be in the endemic stage.

@CrimsonTider it's not total Doom and gloom.

Theoretically the spike protein can only mutate so much before it's rendered ineffective so there's a very good chance the antibodies that transitively get generated by the mrna vaccines would still be able to bind to the new protein folds of the mutated spike protiens.

Just figured I'd give both sides

I get it. I still think we need to be concerned about the virus

but Americans aren’t about to lose another year. I fully expect touring to be back late summer

The US botched the pandemic so badly that the only way to have a fighting chance against it was the vaccine. Then when the vaccine came out, people didn't want to take it, and now more variants are popping up making it more likely the vaccines will be ineffective against them.

God bless America. :salute:

There’s absolutely zero evidence at all the vaccines will be ineffective against any variants, as they all provide robust defense to every current variant out there and there’s only so many moves the virus can make before it lessens itself. It is far more likely the vax works just fine
