Don't know how vaccine experiments work, but it would be cool if they could find cures for other viruses while searching for the cure to this virus since supposedly so many companies are working on it.

I went out today on a little Supermarket run, but took the subway and all that, and there was probably only less than 5% of people not wearing masks. Still, I'm not sure what these 5% people are thinking. Do they figure that they'll just catch it and then develop antibodies? A lot of them are probably transplants whose family doesn't live in New York, so they don't have to worry about getting an elderly family member sick once they return to their apartments.

there's a shytstorm brewing right now because you have a large amount of American citizens who are choosing to deliberately disobey the ordinances put in place by state government officials in an attempt to control the pandemic and decrease the cases

couple that with the fact the corporations are itching to be back fully open so they can continue to meet their quotas as well as greedy and incompetent federal leaders and you'll see why we about to be in this for the long haul :snoop:

at this point everybody better hope and pray for a vaccine to be discovered sooner than later cause that's the only thing that'll get our asses out of this huge mess

This may be the most important post in this thread. If this is accurate...IT'S GAME OVER!

If you can catch it over and over, with each infection being worst...*insert Aliens Hick's guy saying game over man*

It was discussed month's ago.

This from the 22nd April.

Peak Prosperity was discussing some reports about 4 - 6 weeks ago that suggested that the cytokine storm could be worse on a reinfection.

Just did a quick search:

ts = 18m30s . mentions Spanish Flu defines the storm

and ts = 21m discusses reinfection

add some salt ...

Yeah I've been seeing the question tossed around but nothing substantial. This isn't concrete either but it's pointing toward Dawn of the Dead.

If there's no herd immunity and antibodies, without a vaccine even these people who catch it and recover may not be so lucky their 2nd or 3rd time.

Maryland officials report 642 new coronavirus cases and 9 more deaths

By PHILLIP JACKSON

JUL 12, 2020 AT 5:00 PM

Maryland health officials reported on Sunday 642 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths related to the virus.

Sunday’s increase in cases brings the state total to 73,109 people infected by COVID-19. Officials say 3,188 people have died as a result of illness from the virus.

Maryland’s positivity rate remained below 5% for the 17th straight day as the state reported 4.45%, a slight drop from Saturday. The World Health Organization recommends that governments have a seven-day average rate below 5% for 14 days before they begin reopening measures.

As of Sunday, 392 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus: 278 in acute care and 114 requiring intensive care. Since officials began tracking the virus in March, 11,420 people have been hospitalized.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan in a statement issued Sunday said the state has conducted more than 800,000 COVID-19 tests including a record 21,140 test over the last 24 hours. State officials continue to monitor spikes and outbreaks in neighboring states, although the Hogan administration suggests Maryland’s figures are headed in the right direction.

On the national effort to curb the virus, Hogan told NBC’s Chuck Todd Sunday, “I think they have made some progress in a number of areas with respect to now getting [personal protective equipment] out to some of the states and working together for us but there is no question that mistakes were made.”

Hogan, who chairs the National Governors Associations, continues to tout Maryland’s numbers, which have largely flatlined in recent weeks, while other states have seen record-breaking surges.

Florida shattered the national record Sunday for the largest single-day increase in positive coronavirus cases in any state since the beginning of the pandemic, adding more than 15,000 cases as its daily average death toll continued to also rise.

According to the state’s Department of Health statistics, 15,299 people tested positive, for a total of 269,811 cases and 45 deaths.

“We should have had a national testing strategy that we should have been on top of this, that we should have had a much more clear national strategy and been communicating much earlier on in the process and I think governors had to step up and be on the frontlines but we had 50 different states with 50 different strategies and some did better than others,” Hogan continued on Meet The Press.

California had the previous record of daily positive cases — 11,694, set on Wednesday. New York had 11,571 on April 15.

The numbers come at the end of a grim, record-breaking week as Florida reported 514 fatalities — an average of 73 per day. Three weeks ago, the state was averaging 30 deaths per day. Since the pandemic began in March, 4,346 people have died in Florida of COVID-19, the state says.

“There is no question that things could have been done better from the beginning of this crisis and look, right now it does not do any good,” Hogan said on the Sunday morning news program. “We have got to deal with the situation at hand we also have to do the best job we can because this thing is out of control it is by no means behind us and we are all in it together and we have got to work together at the federal state and local level.”

In Maryland, fifteen of the state’s 24 jurisdictions have now met Hogan’s goal for testing 10% of their population. Howard, Caroline and Worcester counties joined that last Sunday, according to a news release.

“The positivity rate is below 7% in every jurisdiction, with the exception of Queen Anne’s County, which has experienced a 259% increase in its positivity rate since June 30 and has the state’s highest positivity rate at 8.49%,” according to the release.

The recent uptick in testing has also showed Marylanders under 35 have a positivity rate 83.5% higher than Marylander’s older than 35.

Prince George’s County remains the county with the highest total of cases, 19,713, while Montgomery County reports the highest amount of COVID-19 related deaths, 721, according to state numbers released on Sunday.

DMV was high at one point too. But NY/DMV they shut everything down and I mean everything. The only essential business were health care facilities, pharmacies and medical care centers. No social settings were open and they enforced that strictly. Even banks were closed. The public transportation was open for essentials but reduced schedules and such. This is the first week where we are on an “official” reopening phase but at a very limited capacity. But still with that everything is by appointment, you can’t just “walk in” anywhere without calling ahead, setting a reservation or scheduling a specific time, at least in my area. Jobs here are still optioning out remote bc building occupancy is at a reduced capacity. Most people are doing a hybrid split -in office a few days and remote work the remaining days out the week. no child care or summer camps, no recreational facilities are allowed to open. Schools are looking at a hybrid remote learning/ in class schedule for fall.

Man metro was not fukking around when COVID first came through.

When the Cherry Blossom Festival was supposed to go on Metro straight up killed it by shutting down the stations closest to the mall and tidal basin.

I remember at the beginning of this when a few restaurants were going to deify the shutdown order and stay open at full at full capacity until the mayor came through ready to close them up by force.

And then I look at how the south is handling everything and just shake my head.

Another long standing question is heat. I had to rep @Lord Scarf for being right about that one.

It looks like Australia is experiencing a "2nd wave" as their Winter takes hold.

"
Professor Peter Collignon, who is from The Australian National University Medical School, tweeted on Sunday “Australia (population 26 million) is getting a second wave of Covid”.

“More of a concern than the first wave as most cases are community transmission and nearly all from just one city (Melbourne),” Professor Collignon tweeted.

He also predicted the likelihood of spreading the infectious disease could increase due to the time of year.

“Winter has just started here, so also likely a factor in increasing risk of spread,” he said.

Even if a vaccine is discovered how long is it effective? Tom Hanks suggested that his antibodies are low and he caught this in March. If you've got to get shots every 3-4 months that's gonna be a problem especially for the uninsured who won't be able to afford that. Beyond that how effective would it be poses another problem. There's a lot of magical thinking wrapped up is some shot that gets the world back to how it was pre-COVID-19 but that's the perfect scenario.

I think its more likely we're living closer to the way we live now for a long time rather than things going back to normal. There's too many things that can go wrong to get us back to people's ideal life and almost everything that could go wrong would have to go right to achieve it.

true but man we gotta start somewhere :manny: the fukkery that'll come with the vaccine and how it'll be administered is a whole different ball game
