Mother was telling me some interesting stories about people's feeling at the hospital regarding covid. A few nurses she knows decided to take up that New York offer to go help. They were offering stupid ass money for nurses to travel there and help. They worked 12 hour days for I think she said three weeks.
There is now a schism. She already told me that there are people who didn't believe the virus was as serious as projected, including a fellow doctor or two. There were quite a few nurses who are typically right wing white Karen types who spouted all the typical lines about it being blown up by democrats and what not. Now that some of the nurses actually saw the worse of it up close, now when some of the nurses who stayed bring up how it's overblown, the nurses who went to New York are quick to say how this shyt is serious and no way fake. She said one woman said it was real to her when she had to help stack a dead patient into a refrigerated truck and that isn't something she had to do before.
Again, just found it interesting and further cements my belief how a lot of people lack the ability to empathize and quick to discount shyt until it hits them directly. I don't know what the opinions of the nurses who went to NY before going but, again my mom told me there is a new level of seriousness about it among the nurses who went.
