None of those college students that hit the beach back in March died. And we all pointed and laughed at them too.

People who got sick today are sick because of people who got sick a few weeks ago. Everyone who died of this today died because someone got sick a few weeks ago.

There would be fewer new sick and fewer new deaths IF people a few weeks ago better avoided infection. That's true of every single one of the million plus (USA) who has gotten infected so far.
