Trump is using aid as leverage to try and get state governments to prematurely re-open their economies.

Israel: Tel Aviv protesters maintain social distancing rules

Wuhan in neighbouring Hubei province, where the disease first emerged at the end of last year. As a result, country authorities have imposed travel restrictions, with non-essential travel banned between villages and communities. Anyone coming in and out of residential compounds is required to wear a facemask, have their temperature taken and produce a certificate to prove they are healthy, according to an official document leaked to Radio Free Asia.

Businesses are closed except for supermarkets and farmers' markets, with 600,000 people effectively living under curfew, according to the country government's Weibo account.

One resident said: "Everything's locked down. It just started.

PROMOTED STORY
"All households are locked down. Nobody can go into town, or if you do, you won't be able to leave again."

One member of staff at the hospital's testing division said there strict rules about getting who was permitted to get tested.

They added: "Not just anyone can come; you have to be on a special list.

"You can only get it done with official approval from higher up, when we get notification from them.

"Nobody's getting tested if they're not on the list."

The hospital is carrying out "several hundred" tests a day, the staff member said, adding that this was an estimate.

"We are all working overtime here in the testing division, anyway."

Another resident said: "Many people believe that the epidemic has been brought under control due to government propaganda, which is false.

"Basically life has gone back to the way it used to be, just with some people still choosing to wear face masks on the streets.

"But some people stopped wearing masks too, so this news is a good thing, because it will keep people on the alert."

Doubts have also been cast on official figures suggesting just 1,000 asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, specifically claims by epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan, coronavirus epidemic adviser to the government, that the proportion of asymptomatic infections was very low.

Chen Bingzhong, the former director of the China Institute of Health Education under the ministry of health, said: "Zhong Nanshan believes that the proportion of asymptomatic people is very low. This is wrong, but how do we prove it?"

"The most reliable way to achieve early detection is a nucleic acid test, but are these tests 100 percent reliable?

"No, they're not, but they're the most reliable method we have right now."

The government feared the more people who were confirmed were infected, the more these people would hold them to account, Mr Bingzhong said.

He added: "It'll get to the point where they lose legitimacy, because they just try to cover everything up and pass the buck," he said. "They are doing this to cling onto power."

Official figures suggest 55 new cases of asymptomatic infections were confirmed on Friday, while 1,075 people were under medical observation.

Officially, China has 82,464 cases of COVID-19, of whom 76,741 have recovered, and 3,326 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Centre.

However, government data leaked last month suggested the proportion of suffers without symptoms could be as high as one in three.

The coronavirus could linger in the testicles, making men prone to longer, more severe cases of the illness, according to a new study.

Researchers tracked the recovery of 68 patients in Mumbai, India, to study the gender disparity of the virus, which has taken a worse toll on men, according to a preliminary report posted on MedRxix, which hosts unpublished medical research papers that have not been peer reviewed.

Dr. Aditi Shastri, an oncologist at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and her mother, Dr. Jayanthi Shastri, a microbiologist at the Kasturba Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Mumbai, said the virus attaches itself to a protein that occurs in high levels in the testicles.

This protein, known as angiotensin converting enzyme 2, or ACE2, is present in the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract and the heart in addition to large quantities in the testicles.

But since testicles are walled off from the immune system, the virus could harbor there for longer periods than the rest of the body, according to the study.

The mother-daughter researchers said these findings may explain why women bounce back from the virus more quickly than men.

They determined that the average amount of time for female patients to be cleared of the virus was four days, while men saw recoveries that on average were two days longer, the report said.

“These observations demonstrate that male subjects have delayed viral clearance,” the authors wrote, adding that the testicles may be serving as “reservoirs” for the virus.

The study may offer an explanation for reports out of Italy, South Korea and New York City that men are dying at higher rates from the virus.

Others have suggested that men are more vulnerable because they are more likely to smoke, have high blood pressure or suffer coronary artery disease.

And when it ends up a disaster it will be on all him
No they've positioned Trump to say it's up to the governors to re-open things while refusing to fund the states. The governors will be the fall guys if this fails and cases surge again. Trump's position is that the federal government is back up and support and he gives the guidelines and lets the states decide. He then points the finger at them when or if it fails.

I'm really, really hoping this is something the US avoids..
It's unavoidable here. This country is too big with too many different states, each with their own rules and governors. Donny is not going to get everyone on the same page it's obvious.

shyt, if china, one of the most authoritarian states ever, can't shut it down.. what chance do we have?
